Opinions on Fender Bassman 400 head?

I got some suggestions to this amp a while back and am looking into getting one again for our bass player. Can anyone give me comments on this amp? I have seen versions with a black faceplate and silver faceplate. Are there any differences.

We are a 3 piece playing classic rock and blues and we pretty much always use a Jazz or P Bass with Flats.

Thanks in advance!

If it's the amp I'm thinking of, the amp requires three speaker cabinets in order to give the full 400W. It has three speaker outs each rated at 135W.

I don't think that is the case. The one for sale locally has just one speaker out on the back.

Fender has made so many different amps, can you post a pic?

This is the Fender Bassman I am talking about. Also, can anyone tell me how it compares to the Ampeg PF500?

I was able to go try out the amps at guitar center today and the tone of the Ampeg was by far my favorite out of their selection.

I've only played the white/silver faced one with the "room balance" control. I like that amp a lot.
Seems very versatile & robust.

Yes it's the solid state 400w not the old tube monster.

Nice amp, but spkr choice is important. A big cab, like an 810, will rock with that head.

I like the sound of them , bigtime. Best bang for the buck, imo.
