opinions on markbass Lm800 Tube

Sign in to disble this ad
found one in the classifieds,,,,,, I'm looking for a smaller jam amp thats pretty loud and sounds good! I will run it through a bag End S15-D (also have a S-15XD if I need 2) anyway I was checking the smaller amps out now and the whole "Tube" thing catches my eye.

my main rig is Mesa 400+ so I like the tube sound,, let me know what you think of this head.. thanks T in Boston

While the LMT800 is a fine amp, it is on the 'non tubey' side of hybrids. The difference between the tube pre and solid state pre is very subtle, and if you are looking for a small head to be anywhere in the tonal range of your 400, this would not be it.

Of course, every amp 'sounds like it does', and your Mesa400 has its own very strong voice. So, no other amp (light or otherwise) will souind exactly the same.

I very much like the match-up of the Genz Streamliner 900 and the small bag cubes (my buddy TBer Mikebass uses this exact rig, and it sounds great). The Streamliner is very tubey for a hybrid head... fat, warm.

You might also consider a Mesa Walkabout... GREAT match with that stack.

Finally, if you want it a bit brighter and more aggressive, but still with some of that 'tube complexity', the GK MBFusion is a nice option.

I've also been impressed with the clips I've heard of the LMRocker, which seems to be much more impacted by the tube driver control than the LMT800 or LMTube is to my ear.

IMO and IME!

Hello fellow Masshole bassist!

I owned that amp for a short period of time. It's voiced VERY deep and wide. Tough to tame the low end, it rumbled and was very boomy. The tube....well...didn't sound very tubey.

If you do a search for LMT800 you will find tons of differing opinions.

There are better Markbass choices. if you trust years ears and somewhat ignore your wallet as much as possible, you;re more apt to find something appropriate for your needs.

Good luck!
