Ok, here's the deal, I own an NV610 and love it's tone but I find it a bit much to haul around. I'm thinking about getting another cab to replace it and need some opinions from my fellow gearheads at TB.
I tried out a Genz Uber 212 at a store and thought it sounded really good but I didn't A/B it with my 610 'cause there's no way I'm hauling it down to the store. Anybody ever compare them side to side?
Another option I'm really curious about is the fearful 15/6, has somebody compared it to the NV610?
One thing I really like about the Berg is how punchy and fat it is, although it's not necessarily deep, it has a good amount of lows and sounds great in a mix. I don't mind changing to a cab with a different voicing but I want to retain the punch factor.
I'm not sure if the punch effect comes from the mid forward voicing or air displacement.
Thanks for any info! |

True story.

When I tried a UB212 at the store, the peak was at a different voicing and not as pronounced.
At the end, it's all what you like. I stuck with the Berg and I cut that pronounced frequency with the mid control, and how much i cut depends on the room.

In the fall I can arrange to bring my LDS 15/6 (very close to a fEarful design) to Mtl for you to test drive and you can drag the 610 over for comparison if you are THAT motivated, LOL. We might need to replace a few windows after that GTG, however!

The new Berg 212 seems like a good piece, but it is rather expensive, almost as expensive as the 610!

I'm not looking for ''better'' or ''the best'', just something to replace my 610 that will sound good to me. I've tried and owned other cabs but the NV is the best cab I've played through so far, hate lugging it around though and I haven't taken it to gigs because it takes up too much space in my car full of gear.
I know all this is subjective but I ask because I have no idea what a 15/6 sounds like except for kjungs' vids and sound clips (which may or may not represent).
The Genz 212 sounded more hi-fi with the tweeter but also fairly thick and full.
Lomo, thanks for the offer, sounds like a great idea, not sure I can hold out until then though...
I'll probably sell the Berg soon as we lost our rehearsal space and it's just sitting at home now.

Basically everything is there and I don't find it to have any large peaks or dips in any particular region. Much more like a studio monitor than a traditional bass rig.
Some people really dig this type of tone/feel, others dislike it. If your preferred tone is from an NV610, you might not really like a 15/6/1 design as it is quite a bit different from what you're used to.

The NV610 has wheels and will tilt back to move, and when you get to the car you just pull it up on one leg and swing it into the car. A 410 cabinet will have very simliar weight, you'll have to bend down to push it if it has casters, and then you have to pick it up to put it in the car.

The Genz 212 is 63 pounds, so about 40 less than the Berg.
Also, when I gig I have to pack my vehicle full of gear, drum, amps, keyboards, etc, the 610 takes up too much space.
I get the studio monitor thing for the 15/6, pretty far from the NV voice, however I'm certain such a neutral cab can be made to sound any which way. Plus it should give me a better idea of what's coming out of the PA. |

| | | | When I bought the uber 2x12, like you, i was looking for best bang for the pound. The uber only weighs one pound more than my old ba-115 combo but sounds way bigger. Of course, for $1000 you could do alot of different things. Maybe two berg 1x12s.
