Opinions on new Trace Elliot cabs vs. older TE redline series.

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an extra Trace Elliot AH600-12 and a guy that wants to trade me his slotted cab 1048H and 1518 for it.
I have not played through or heard the new TE cabs with the slotted ports.
I have the 1048H and 1518 cabs with red lines and round ports driven by my AH1200SM on Ch 1, leaving Ch 2 unused. I would like a matching stack of redlines on Ch 2 but...
So, My question is:
What is the difference in sound/tone/presence between the different series of Trace Elliot cabs - redlined round ports, no lined round ports and the newer slotted port cabs?

No opinion, but they may not work together with each other any better than random brand cabs.

What I'm looking for is - which of the series performs better than the other in a 1048H+1518 stack with or with out the 1818 included in the stack.
I can run the 3 cabs together as a stack on each channel, that said...
I don't like the look of mis-matched cabs so, I'll either have all bottom slotted, all no red line round ports, or all redlined round ports (which I have).
I know the newer bottom slotted cabs handle more power but even the older 300 watt cabs can handle what my AH1200SM puts out at 2 ohms, so that's really not an issue.

I liked the original RR covered Red-Line cabs better...I didn't care too much for the ported Kaman and Gibson era cabs too much. That being said, I'm thinking of trying the new TE cab with the 1X15 and the 2X10, although if I ever find an 1818x (which had the 1X18 and the 1X10), I swear I'll sell one of my kids to get one of those....well, maybe not a kid, but definitely anything except my house!!!!
