Opinions on peavey 1820

I currently use a hartke 410tp together with a behringer 115. I know these are both entry level cabs. Considering trading them for a peavey 1820. Would this be a better cab? Or should I hang on to the hartke/behringer setup? Thanks in advance.

You may get deeper bass with the 18 speaker, at the expense of transportability, as separate 4x10 and 1x15 cabinets are easier to move than a bigger cab.
You may also lose punch - or get a different kind of punch, as a Hartke 4x10 is not easy to replace (if you like that kind of sound.)
Any chances to compare the rigs side by side and let your ears be judge?

Not really. The guy that has it is playing a gig with it tonight so I'm gonna go listen to it. I haven't been too impressed with the hartke 410. Or the behringer 15 for that matter. Unfortunately I don't really have the money to buy a new rig. Was hoping this would be a favorable deal.

Just listened to it. Small bar, country music. Sounded fine for that. Very smooth sounding lows. Not sure how good it would be for rock, funk, etc.

Big, heavy, tubby, big, muffled high end, heavy, plus they're big and heavy. But at least they are big and heavy.

Honestly, just trade the two cabs you now have in for one good 410. Hartke's 4.5XL cab is light years better than the transporter stuff and can be had for a reasonable price, especially used. If you can come up with more $ there are better options.

Lol. I guess they're heavy. I can live with heavy

I thought the 10s sounded pretty nice. With a 5 string, the 18s in both of mine sounded like what I imagine a prolonged elephant fart would. One of mine was converted into 2 studio apartments, and I ended up keeping my car parked inside the other for a year and a half until local zoning laws forced me to get a smaller garage.

Normally I like big cabs. I've had 2 4X15s, a 1X15/4X10, and 2 2X10/2X15 cabinets along with the obligatory 8X10. If the sound is worth the bulk I don't mind. The 1820 didn't cut the mustard. Just the cheese.

1. Peavey 1820. I agree. Muffled a bit. Not clear, not crisp. Big, heavy.

2. XL series is definitely better than the cheaper Transporter series. Pretty much like SWR pro stuff compared to SWR Workingman stuff.

No, moving from you current rig to the 1820 would not be a big step up. Look at the Peavey 4x10's, too. Very underrated.

I played through one many years ago - part of someone else's biamped rig. I remember a Furman crossover; forget what else was in the rack. It sounded great - fat, with good definition. I'm surprised by the "muffled" charges. Those 10" Scorpions can be fairly bright. Yeah, it's big & heavy. No heavier than a Peavey 410, I'll wager. I wouldn't cart either one around. But I think it's capable of good tone and volume. At the right price, it'd be a good value.

I had one back in the day. I thought the weak link with that cab was the crossover. In a bi-amp system, it can sound pretty good.

I don’t think I would make the trade though. I would echo the suggestion of trading your stack for one good 410 cab.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am gonna look around for a hartke 410xl. That peavey doesn't seem like it would be enough of an improvement to justify the hassle of hauling it around
