Opinions: Promethean P110C vs Eden EX110

Hi all,

living in Scotland I struggle to "Try before I buy"! Therefore I really like to do as much research as possible! I have exhausted all avenues in my search for a good, affordable 1x10 and I've came too these two!!

Anyone tried both of these?

Would really appreciate any opinions!

Thanks,

Connor

the Eden is old...they sound OK, not great, the tweeter in that coaxial 10 is NOT very bright, and the 10 craps out really easily. The amp itself is also an awkward size, not big but not small, and CERTAINLY not light. More than 50 lbs, I would say. We have one at the college I teach at. It is REALLY easy to press it into farting out, and having the amp overload light on ALL the time, especially if you play dynamically with back pickup. Also, it is VERY WELL DOCUMENTED that Eden have had some of the WORST customer service issues in the HISTORY of customer service (see 20,000 threads on the subject), so...

The Ibanez, I absolutely LOVE. I did a big review and comparison with the Genz Benz Shuttle 10" here:

Gear Review-Ibanez Promethean Combo 5110 vs. Genz-Benz 3.0-310T « Bass Players United

That should tell you all you need to know.

Get the Ibanez...and the extension box (neo) before it's gone, or triples in price.

Cheers,
Cameron

Oh, yeah...

and the Eden has had TWO (2 - II) mainboard failures in the time we've owned it (about five years) - just turned it on and KabrrrrT! Gone. And it doesn't get used that much - we have five other bass amps and NOT that many bass players. First one was fixed under warranty, the last one cost almost $300.00. I've told the college to sell it before it causes any more grief.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Cheers,
Cameron

What is that Ibanez like in a live situation?

you're NEVER going to get much out of a 1x10...but the Ibanez is better than the Eden in this regard. Better sound, and louder. And with an extension cab, NO comparison, even against the Eden with an extension cab. The Ibanez is a real 500 watts. I don't know WHAT the Eden is, they claim 330 watts, but I think that is total horse****, even WITH and extension cab and running at 4 ohms. Not a lot of headroom.

Cheers,
Cameron

I think I've been misunderstood, these are just standalone cabs if you check the model numbers. I'm going to be using one with a GK MB200.

I don't gig so it would be for acoustic jams and practice.

sorry, I was talking about the comparable COMBO amps...

I have heard the Eden a LONG time ago...that's an OLD cab. And the Ibanez is quite good, but I don't have extensive experience with it. If you want a GREAT rig, get a Berg. AE112 or an HT112ER. Blows by either of the ones you're talking about. And if you want stupidly light, the new Aguilar SL112 is a very nice cab as well.

Get them soon before they're gone - neodymium speakers are about to go bye bye because of skyrocketing prices.

Cheers,
Cameron

Would love a Bergantino 12 mate, unfortunately there around $1000 in the uk, and I just can't justify that kind of cash at the moment.

Think I'll be going with the Ibanez from what's been said regarding the Eden!

Plus one. It's a MASSIVE price difference over here but the Ibanez is still reasonable.

I don't know what you mean by "old," but the Eden CXC110s made before US Music entered the picture were possibly the best 1x10s on the market. They were 29 lbs each, and they sounded wonderful for what they were. For a number of years I gigged with two of them paired with a WT-400, and it was the perfect blend of power, portablilty, and tone.

Today, there are plenty of very good 1x10s to choose from. Ten years ago, Eden was one of the few companies able to show what such a small cabinet can do.

MM20 recognize you tag from the Basschat forums! The price hike over here is terrible! Luckily the Ibanez is pretty "cheap" so I think I'll order that!!

I thought you were talking about the combos at first, too, and I was going to echo the recommendation for the Promethean.

But, if you have a GK MB200 head, I'd strongly suggest that you check out the GK Neo112-II. That is an amazing cab at any price point, and a real steal, IME/IMHO, at its street price.

I'll look into the GK! But I see it's £150 dearer than the two cabs I mentioned. Which is quite a hike for me!

Like a said, I'm not looking to use it for gigs or recording, it's just so I can be amped up in the house!

Hmm... I guess GK pricing isn't quite as competitive on your side of the Pond.
