Orange 1x15 and 4x10 cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
Have an Orange AD200 amp and am playing through DB115 and DB410, and its sweet, but cant help but wonder what it would sound like with the Orange setup?? I know the Orange cabs have no tweeter, so im wondering if this will be to my unliking. I have been told that buying the Orange cabs would be "going backwards" as far as sound and quality (comparted to the Aggies). Anyone shed some heavenly light on my situation??

I do not like horns in my cabs. I sold my Edens for the Orange and love it. Saving up for a black one now

The Orange OBC115 is a great sounding cab. One of the best all-around cabs in my opinion.

i haven't heard the DB115, but the OBC115 blew away my GS115 in every parameter - volume, warmth, richness of tone. In all honesty, I was shocked at how much the Aggie paled in comparison. "Backwards" never sounded so good!

How come you never see any specs on the Orange cabs? I am curious about the OBC115 and the SP212 and the SP410.

I dunno, Orange isn't the only manufacturer who doesn't publish them. A lot of the amplification gurus here on TB say that a lot of specs, from quite a few big-name companies, are exaggerated and/or irrelevant.

All I know is what my ears told me, as well as another bass player, in his living room - the OBC115 is a loud, musical beast.

I found the OBC115 very dark by itself, nowhere near as bright as my Trace Elliot 1153, although Tom Bowlus' 1x15 shootout says they have a similar sound that's not what I experienced. Adding the OBC410 brightens things up nicely though, I believe it has a horn.

I run two OBC115s with the same head and it sounds monsterous, I've been wanting to try a 4x10 my self, sometimes I feel its hard to cut through on stage.

While they have their similarities (IME/IMHO), the 1153 and the Orange do have their differences, as well. With regard to the 1153, I noted: "...this cab was rather similar in overall performance to the Orange, and in fact, it was more similar to the Orange than it was to the newer Trace 1x15. It is not quite as full on the lows as the Orange, but has even better high end information and detail, and in some regards seemed even more articulate through the mids."

And of course, there's always that YMMV thing.

With regard to the Orange 410, I do believe it has a tweeter.

IME/IMHO, these cabs are in no way a step backwards from Aguilar. I like Aguilar products very much, but I would say that they are equally good brands.

Tom.

Good call Tom. Same level of product, different vibe (Orange more voiced for vintage tones).

The 410 does indeed have a tweeter. Its set and has no level control, but after using it, its a nice subtle level.

my Orange 15" is the sweetest 15 I've heard. Havent rocked through the 4x10, but I'd buy one without hesitation if I needed it

I much prefer my AD200 into fifteens than tens, and normally run mine into a Berg 215. When I bought my AD200 I played it at the shop through an Ornge fifteen which really impressed me as a tight, loud and dry/not-boomy cab.
