Have you considered the Morgan MP200?

Hand made in Southern CA.
Gives you EVERYTHING that the Orange give as far as gorgeous overdriven tone.
PLUS
Has clean tone TO DIE FOR!
AND
Only weighs 42 lbs!

Awesome amp. Notice the amount of bands switching from Ampeg to Orange ?

Pros - Not as heavy as most tube amps, awesome style, simple yet effective, tube grind available at low volumes and will do 8 ohms.

Cons - Needs a flightcase. The tolex marks easily.

Think that might be more of an indicator of how many other bands amps you are paying for when you buy an Orange.

For the money you can get the Orange, I think it's better put somewhere else. Nothing against Orange, I love their products, but I prefer others.

Reeves amps are just otherworldly. Great, great stuff.

I haven't tried a Morgan amp yet but really want to, and these amps consistantly get rave reviews.

Possibly, but I'm talking small independent hardcore bands, and the bassists I managed to speak to had to pay full whack.

depends on what you want..
I owned one and didn't like the sound.

If your looking for an ampeg svt sound. not even close..

Very bland in my oppion.

Pros -sexy as hell on stage, decently light, lots of people asking and saying ooh.

Cons - sound\

Dont buy new grab a used one and give it a shot. then turn it.

I'm GASING hard for a Morgan MP200.
That, and a Bergantino 6x10 would be rock & roll heaven.

I was the total opposite. The latest Ampeg SVT CL and VR I tested the AD200b against in the store sounded plain dull, and over priced. Orange in the UK is a much better deal for us, for once.

One of the (painfully) few purchases I have absolutely NO regrets about making.
And the real difference maker is Joe Morgan himself. He works with you PERSONALLY to get the amp just the way you want it!

Great rock heads!
A tad on the expensive part, but they sound great.
You can possibly get a more versitile head like a 400+ or Reeves with a simular sound.
I like Orange very much, you can't go wrong IMHO if that is the sound you like.

Perform the requisite searches, and you'll find plenty of AD200 comments. For that price point, I would be looking at a Reeves Custom 225. A vastly superior all around product...as my avatar depicts.
And no, I receive no compensation from Reeves Amplification.

In the end you make your own choices based on what you hear and feel. The Orange is a great amp, for me I AB'd it with several amps and went with the SVT VR - a bit more punch and clean volume IMO, but that might not be what you are looking for.

The AD200 breaks up nicely. Or plays clean. Simple controls.
