Orange AD200B Help needed.

Sign in to disble this ad
so i just picked up an Orange AD200B..
the fella i got it from said it had a bad tube.. (it had the 1+3 tube fuse lit to show that one of that pair had gone bad)

well, instead of the amp operating at 1/2 power, it makes very little sound and its sputtery when it does..

I replaced all four tubes and the fuse and it still sounds the same.. ie: very low sputtery signal, kinda like the sound you get if you keep playing your bass when you turn off a tube amp before all the power is out of it.

any ideas what it could be ?... i know this is precious little to diagnose a problem from...

I dont know if i should send it back, or if its a simple fix and i should just take it to a tech, or what..

any help is very appreciated.

it's hard to say without looking at it, but when a output tube or two goes south, it can often take a screen grid resistor or two with them. if you're not familair with working on a tube amp other than changing tubes, you may want to take it to a tech.

it could be anything from some cooked resistors, to a dirty send/rec jack (in your case unlikely) to a blown output tranny (even more unlikely, but possible).

A tube amp has a direct connection to your wallet. As soon as there is some money in said wallet, the amp goes wrong.

Take it to a proper tech and let him sort it out. The life you save could be your own.

oh, there is NO WAY I do ANY work on my tube amps other than changing tubes and biasing when i can.... no worries on that...

Im mostly just wondering if this is something that can be repaired easily or if its big dice...

Without seeing the amp there's not a lot we can tell you. Your cost will depend on what your tech finds.

If tubes go down the impedance the OT sees changes as well. Just saying it could be worse than a few tubes. -> tech!

Any orange dealer can order one for you. In our area Boston Guitar Works (Brockton) and B-Sharp Music (Providence) are both dealers and can place an order, but they don't keep them in stock as they're not likely to be sold.
