| | | | Orange amp guys: a couple questions on the Bass Terror and the OR-120

Hi guys, I'm a long time Orange guitar amp fan. So I thought I'd give the Terror Bass a shot. Has anyone tried it? How is it for fingerstyle? (think Flea's fingerstyle tone)
I also just bought (isn't shipped yet) an OR-120. I've read a couple reviews where guys used it for bass. One says it stays very clean, the other suggested it starts getting dirty rather quickly (which I tend to believe the latter). Still, I was curious to see if anyone's tried or heard it.
Thanks! |

the bass terror on the other hand is great, I own one and this little head impresses me. My only gripe so far is the limited EQ (and I've yet to try the DI but some report it being very hot). |

DI and effects loop are line level. |

I actually enjoy the simple and not overly tweakable plug and play approach,
however if I was stuck in a hard spot (bad room, etc) I'm not certain I could EQ my way out with the bass terror (or any orange amp in fact since they all seem to share the same design philosophy). |

I'm seriously wanting to fix it because it's the greatest thing since sliced bread was the greatest thing.

It could sound great for funk provided you like the extra sonic calories they add. The eq is limited but musical. The OR120 wouldn't be the first choice for someone wanting a super-fast, tight attack. Mine started to get looser & richer after about 11 o'clock on the gain knob, but at that point it was loud enough to play with many band situations. Though I also play guitar, I never bothered to try it out, as it was so pleasing with bass.

| | | | The Terror Bass is a great amp for rock and if you like mids in your slap tone. Also for the more motown kind a sound it might be cool (with the right bass). I know about the problems that rawrooo and basskababble had, but mine is doing great!
but since i live in germany and my TB uses 320V as standardt and the gigging and venue culture here is different (nearly no gigs without FOH, Several circuits on stage even in small venues) This may due to this. |

Just stop wondering - you've made the best choice, cos now you have an amp that'll sound awesome for guitar, keys, bass whatever really.
And you'll never have a worry selling it should you need to.....
BTW;
If the Orange does get a little too woolly for bass, you can always swap the input 12AX7 tube for a 12AU7.
Regardless, you'll have no issues getting enough volume and bass from the OR-120 for rehearsals and regular gigs, you just have to match it with the right cab. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
