Hey everyone,
Just after some input from anyone who's willing to give it -
I'm looking at getting a new amp & cab, and I've settled on an Orange Terror Bass 500w (Not in a position to get the AD200, I'm a uni student), and I'm trying to decide on what cab:
Either the Bergantino NV610 or NV412.
If anybody could share some insight as to the differences between these two cabs tonally etc, I'd really appreciate it. I live in Auckland (NZ), so I'm not in the position to be able to try either of them out. I've also only ever owned one amp in my life - a SS 150w combo with a 1x15 and tweeter, so I don't exactly know what the tonal differences are between the different speaker sizes that are available.
The sound I'm after would be a cross between JPJ's on Ramble On, and Jared Followill's on Because of the Times - he played through an Ampeg SVT Classic and standard 810.
Thanks for your help! |

I prefer the Orange through the 215, an opinion shared by my bandmates. It opens up at both frequency extremes as you might expect given the configuration of the cab (2 15s and a 6). The NV610 is more modrange focused and really can punch it out for hard rock, but the 215 is no slouch in this department either. From what I have read the 412 is more similar in tone to the 215 than the 610. However, you cannot go wrong with any of the NVs IMO. I am in Hawkes Bay and imported mine from Bass gear Direct in Oz, and George there really does go out of his way to help you and make the importing process as easy as possible. Hope this helps |

Thanks for your help! | I and others had similar questions about the 610 and the 412 recently, a few posters nicely laid out the differences in this thread: Bergantino Choices HS410, NV412, NV610

| | | | Although they are great cabs, why Bergantino? Orange also make great bass cabs. I have a TB500 with OBC115 and SP210 cabs - both superb. Given the concern over D class amps (including the TB) expressed in many posts, some from technical experts, I would feel "safer" going with same brand cabs, whatever the make, as I would assume the manufacturer takes the trouble to match driver characteristics as closely as possible with their particular variety of D class amp. |

| | | | Thanks for the replies so far everyone. So just to clarify; is the 412 warmer and more fuller sounding than the 610?
BTW philtoler, I'd get Orange cabs if I could, but they're really expensive to get - a Bergantino 412 or 610 costs $2475.40, whereas just an Orange 410 w/horn costs $2699. |

If you are buying the Bergantino through Bass Gear Direct both my Berg NVs cost about $2900 landed to my door in New Zealand. Mind you, that was a couple of years ago and the kiwi dollar is stronger now....
BTW, I have played the Orange cabs with my AD200 and preferred the NVs. |

However I can tell-ya It sounds freakin awesome!

| | | | Sorry for my ignorance, but what is "bloom", as in the 412 has more low end bloom?
Also, I like to use effects like OD/distortion, and I use delays and wah on the odd occasion. Which cab would be better suited for using effects (if there is any difference)?
Tim1 - I emailed George at Bergantino a few weeks ago and got that quote from him - I think a combination of the NZD and that I live in Auckland had an influence on the estimated cost, whereas you had to get it to Hawkes Bay. |

I just had a look at my records and I paid New Zealand import duty of $352.19 on an NV 610 with cover, if that is any help to you. Pity we are not closer and you could have tried mine out.
As I said, George is a straight up guy to deal with and you won't go wrong with either cab. You will save yourself a bit of time if you get your customs import number before it arrives (costs nothing and you can use it repeatedly). |

But, to be fair, I have also had Great experiences with Richard from the Auckland bass shop. Which I guess isn't of too much help as you seem to have your mind set (very understandably) on bergantino. while this might not be terribly helpful I would add two more options to the mix that aren't too far a stretch from what you are currently considering: Genz Uber and Mesa powerhouse. both heavy hitting, high end options.

I have at various times tried to encourage them to stock Bergantino but unfortunately it is not well enough known here to stand up against the larger brands. |

| | Registered User | | | | | I do not own or play Berg or Orange cabs or amps, however just from observation I have seen both brand names getting a lot of praise on here. Also the Berg 610 constantly comes up in most cab threads or discussions (bigger cabs). | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
