Orange OBC-115 Question for Owners:

Sign in to disble this ad
Are any of you playing the cab with the port either up or on floor (horizontally) instead of the way it's designed (sideways).

I know it's probably a no-brainer, as in... of course it sounds the same, but I just want to check.... so... does it sounds the same if the port is on the floor?

Also, are the logos screwed onto the grille or glued?

Finally, is the hight exactly 20"?

Thanks!

Logo is glued I think. I have the port to the side....as how it sits normally. Sounds great like that. Not boomy or flabby.

If the dimensions of the cabinet are exactly the same as the ElectroVoice TL-606 which it is nearly identical to, the width is 19.25" and height is 23.75"...depth is 17".

Yes, you can play it with the port any which way. Theoretically, having the port on the floor aids in floor coupling and increases perceived bass frequencies. But, I fully admit I'm clueless as the the science of it all.

I play mine in a plastic tuffbox case, normal orientation - the casters keep it about an extra 6 inches off the ground.

I've never thought about using mine sideways.

The logo is glued on, I think (never tried to remove it).

20" sounds about right.

Cool, thanks for the replies. Also, how and where is the best place to order these cabs? Say I wanted a black one... is that a special order, or can I just buy it somewhere like that?

the screen comes off easy - it looks to be about a perfect square, I'm guessing you could turn it 90 degrees and try to fit it back in there...

I've played it on end, with the port side down, and it sounds about the same. Great cab, by the way! And it actually mixes and matches fairly well with those isobaric cabs, too!

Humbucker music - they have black ones in stock usually, and free shipping.

Thanks again for the replies. Can anyone comment on the tone difference between the OBC-115 and an Ampeg SVT-15E?

Seems as if they are both peak 400W, 8 Ohms, no horn. The ampeg as about half the price, but that orange cab just looks delicious

tombowlus' review (thanks by the way, I've read that thing a million time and have it pretty much memorized... lol) unfortunately does not include the SVT-15E, and I can't seem to find a direct A/B anywhere.

Anyone here?

http://www.ampeg.com/products/classic/svt15e/index.html

It says only 200W power handling on there. Is that correct?!

If it is, its a no brainer. Id have the Orange over it anyway but thats just me.

I called ampeg yesterday, and they told me its 200W RMS and 400 peak, then he said "It's essentially a 400W cab" - which these values always confuse me. So not sure if what Orange lists is equivalent the Ampegs "Peak" value

I'd definitely choose the Orange, nice speaker and well designed. I'm sure the Ampeg does the job but it's not as high spec as the Orange.

Aren't these just the ElectroVoice TL606 design. (3.2 cubic feet internal volume, if I remember correctly)?

If so, you could build one pretty easily and pretty cheap, as many others have done before.
