Orange TB 500 or 1000

Hi guys, I run a little studio and am really a drummer but I'm having a big spinal operation and my mission is to try and get my bass playing up to scratch while I'm laid up for the next 6 months or or so, I'm looking for a rig to jam on at home and potentially gig with. I'm old school Zep, Ac/DC but I do love ALL genres of music so want something that can deliver cleans (not crispy hi-fi clean) and grit and the Orange TB series looks like it's for me but my question is would I be getting more clean headroom with the 1000watt or is it just excessive? If I got the TB1000 I'd partner it with the SP410, if I go for the TB500 it would be the SP212. I've gigged for years so I know the value of headroom and buying right the 1st time, also running a studio most young bands turn up with terrible bass rigs, so that's another important area.

Cheers

I have a TB500 and SP212. It's a great pairing and plenty loud for small to medium sized bars. If I had to do it again without playing the 1000 watt model Idk. The 500 watter has ample headroom. The 1000 might be excessive but I would suggest you go try them both.

Thanks for getting back to me, I posted my question again as I could not find it, is everything approved before going live? Newbie...

Everything I have read gives the SP212 a great review, my trouble now my vertebra has collapsed I'm going on what I can remember hearing a few months ago now as I can't really get out. My aim is to jam with drum students and use it as a studio workhorse as most young players have terrible bass rigs! I'd also like to get a few tracks down and perhaps gig a little, it all depends on the spinal surgery outcome. I know with my current covers band some venues are bass friendly and others are not hence my question, it may be over kill for 90% of the time but the odd situation my occur where it's paid for it's self.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback

Buy the OTB 500, change the 12AX7 valves to 12AT7's, and voila, more clean headroom.
The 500w version is loud enough for any size gig. Believe me!!!
For studio use, have a good DI box, with quite a bit of attenuation built in, as the signal from the DI is very hot as standard. The valve change lessens the hotness as well.

Great stuff, thanks Yorick, so I guess it's the SP212 cab and job done, may be even 2 cabs.... Ummmmmmm
