Orange TB 500

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wanted to get some opinions and such from the TB community of the Orange Terror Bass 500 bass amp. I have heard demos of the amp and I know Orange products are generally pretty solid. To those who have either owned or/have used and played through one what are some things you liked and did not. I am looking to use it for to get some rock tones that can be both clear, but also when need be have a little grunge and grit. My cab is a Mesa PowerHouse 6x10. I was also looking into a Mesa M6 Carbine, but want to know about the Orange primarily in this thread. Thanks everyone

No one has anything to say about this amp? I heard the DI runs a little hot? I can appreciate this amp for it's small form factor and light weight.

Try google translator on this. I heard some very good voices on this amp, but it's not my sound. I know that the new bass-player of my former band tested one and he was very positive because it sounds very very dirty and grindy!

I got my TB500 off the classifieds here and another just sold for $475:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f127/fs-orange-terror-bass-500-like-new-$475-822120/

There's a TB1000 for sale right now as well: FS : Orange TB 1000

I absolutely love mine. It has a a great clean sound but I play a lot of rock and harder type of stuff these days and I love the way you can introduce a lot of high gain grit even at low volumes.

PM me and I can maybe send you some sound clips as per your requirements.

I don't see a way to rack mount it. It's small and boxy with a handle on top and comes with a gig bag. Maybe if you remove the rubber feet and the handle, but it looks like much more trouble than it's worth.

I'll try to get you the sound clips tonight.

Thanks! I'd really like to give it a try but not being able to be racked really turns me off to it. I like the convenience of having the amp, the tuner, and the power conditioner screwed to a frame I can easily carry around.

Thanks for the responses. Like I said I have liked demo I have heard before and love the small size and weight, but wanted to ask about it. I would be interested in hearing your demos though, I will PM you. I am kinda in the middle between this amp and a Mesa M6 Carbine.

I love it!
but the freaking loud DI really bugs me....
furthermore do not expect the DI-signal sound to be anyway near as awesome as what
is coming out of your cab.
That's why I go mic for most gigs!
I furthermore postet recordings I did with the TB500 for my band.
I use a Warwick 6x10" that has a very pronounced low midrange.

That is what I heard, but what do you mean in terms of loud DI? Is it distorted or have a lot of static or just naturally loud? Can you not turn down the DI level?

The DI is +4db I think. I think most DI's are -10db so it is hot....which is a problem if the mixing board you are plugging into has cheap/no input transformers to attenuate the signal.

I own the Mesa M6, I have not tried the Orange, although I've been looking for one to demo.

I think the Mesa is a great amp, It's fast, clear, and loud. The DI level can be controlled on the Mesa. From my limited knowledge of the Orange it seems to be on the other end of tonal spectrum, but great in it's own way.

Everything is IMO, But I think both are solid choices.
