Orange Terror or Ampeg B-2RE

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

So I was trying out amps today and am planning to buy tomorrow however i'm stuck with deciding between these two.

With my current budget I believe these are the best I can get.

My plan is either the Orange Bass Terror with the Orange OBC410 cab or the Ampeg B-2RE with the SVT410HE cab. Both will cost me the same price....

I'd appreciate any feedback / suggestions on what would be my best bet.

I'm playing in a hard rock band with only one guitarist.

Thanks

had that ampeg wit the b-410hfl cab, and didn't care for it.

bad soldering made the head develop a strange buzz. it was fixed, but sucked bigtime. all in all a solidstate tone that works well, but by no means like the tube stuff ampeg puts out. orange gets dirty and weighs less. i'd go orange, but only because i like tubey OD; YMMV

I have Ampeg and Fender. I got rid of my B2RE a while back, it was noisy and not all that. Orange is now just available here in the USA(musicians freinds) and they are more expensive than other rigs such as GK. Also I would try them out if possible and get as much feedback as you can. At least with Ampeg with all the up and down in quality they have, there is more of a history of having them serviced and their problems are out in the open.

I'd go for the Orange, the B2RE actually sounds like it puts out less watts than advertised and has a crumby tone unless you run a VTbass in front of it. With the orange you are getting more watts, and a tube preamp. More bang for your buck so to speak.

Orange.

The B-2RE is . . . unimpressive.

With the cab you're using,I'd recommend the Orange head. Ampeg heads don't go well with Ampeg cabs IMHO. -Luke

Thanks guys i I'm sold on the Orange head.

Any feedback on how the Orange cab (OBC410) compares with the Ampeg (SVT410E).

The place I am buying the orange fro doesn't stock Ampeg and vice versa. So I can't actually test the Terror head with the SVT410E.....

I'm unsure of whether I should go all Orange or Orange Head / Ampeg Cab....

Thanks for your advice so far.

Well I only know thw Orange cab by reoutation, but they are supposed to be very nice and it should pair nicely with the head. The Ampeg svt 410HE is also a very nice cab but I found it's LF response to be inadequate for a 5 string.

If you're palying rock on a 4 string then either cabinet should work very well.

The Ampeg 4x10 HEN (N for Neutrik Connection) was my main cabinet for about 8 years. I'm glad I picked up other cabinets. My cab is made out of particle board. It did it's job, but I just don't prefer it over my other gear.

I used an Ampeg B2R with it. I don't use that anymore either! I have never played through any of the Orange gear, but I don't recommend the Ampeg head or the cabinet.

On the other hand, sounds like you're sold on the head. Why not take it to the Ampeg and give a test run? I was only putting 250 watts through my 4x10, maybe the Orange will bring the Ampeg to life.

The Orange 4x10 really looks like a better cab.

So I took most of your advice and went in to have another play of the Terror planning to buy it. However, I did stop off on my way at another dealer and had a jam on the Dave Eden Time Traveller through an Eden 4x10 cab.

And I was blown away by it! It sounded fat and had a great grunt to it.

Now I think I'm sold on it!

Anyone have any experience with Dave Eden?

The Bass Terror is sweet. Make a good decision.
