Orange Terror Bass 1000, issues resolved? Wait a bit?

I know when these first came out, there were a lot of issues with them cutting out, most threads I'm finding are regarding the TB 500.

I have an opportunity to buy a 9 month old unit used. Since there isn't a warranty, I'm trying to do research. The seller told me it works great, but I don't know him well, and he might be passing off a bad apple.

I don't necessarily need the head right now, are the issues with it cutting out gone? Should I wait a few months for Orange to work the kinks out and buy new?

You might email Orange customer support and see if they own up to any known issues.

After reading tons of threads all afternoon, the only thing I've come up with is a TB user saying the early TB 500's had issues but it was resolved before the 1000's were released.

I also hear the DI is super hot.

The only issue I've had is the super hot DI.... Everything else is peachy in the 6 months I've owned and played my "used from GC" TB500.

Tell your sound guy to use a padded input or turn down the gain.

I tried a TB 500 out recently and I found the DI unusable, it sounded horrible when I tried recording. The gain was very low on the board, we had to jump to a different setup.

Is there any way to lower the gain coming out of the DI?

Sorry to hijack.

I would try an inline XLR attenuator first. Most have switchable attenuation. The better ones get you a tougher package, as well as other positive attributes. BHPV has several; read the reviews and then decide. Put the attenuator in the middle of 2 cables, not directly into an amp or board connector. This will prevent physical stress.
