Orange Terror Bass 1000 Threshold

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought an Orange Terror Bass 1000, and I absolutely love it, except that the volume threshold is the touchiest out of any amp that I've ever used. Once the volume knob is past the first notch, it's extremely loud, to the point that it's uncomfortable. Is there anything that I can do about this?

I think it's probably just the way they are! Orange are always very loud amps...so I can imagine their 1000w BT is a beast!

Trade it in on the 500?

Any good amp tech should be able to change the volume pot for a more gradual taper, which will fix the issue.

Set the volume on the amp a bit high and use a volume pedal for adjustments?

There's both an input gain, and a master volume; you should be able to get what you want relatively easily by using both.

Ya I've messed with the gain and everything to try to make it more gradual, so I'll just take it to my local amp technician. Thanks for the responses!

you could get a volume pedal and try to adjust it that way, too.

I have the tb500 and I don't have any problem getting a comfortable volume but I have to work the gain and master properly to achieve a decent volume. Decent being a relative term of course decent for the band I mean. Lol

I use my volume pedal at full volume and i'm not really looking to change that. I shouldn't have to change the way I play because of faulty equipment.

Some amps just have a really fast taper on the volume, especially if you set the Input Gain high (which I generally do for the best tones with hybrid amps). All my Mesa Boogie amps have been the same way- especially the Carbine and my old 400+ (that amp didn't really do quiet). A different tapered pot for the Volume control is probably the best answer, as a volume pedal before the amp will also change the tone and the way you bass interacts with the Gain circuit.
