Any ideas folks - I picked up a used Orange TT bass head. Got it home and tried it worked fine for 10 mins. Next time I plugged it in all I get is crackle and a 'farting' noise! I can hear my bass very quietly amongst all this... any ideas on what it might be?

Believe it or not, a preamp tube is less prone to damage or being "blown" than a lot of other types of electronics. Sure it's a possibility, but I would not assume the tube is the problem. It's cheap and easy to get a replacement tube to swap in there to confirm though, so that's one thing to try before taking it in for service.

Sounds like it could be a tube...the fact that you can hear your bass very low sounds like that's the culprit. I've has the same issue and it was a tube.

i would first take a short 1/4" to 1/4" patch cable and plug it into the effects loop (send/receive jacks). if it works normally afterwards, then you just have dirty contacts in the S/R jack's switches.

True-- that's a very common problem, and solution!
