Is This An Original B18N Speaker?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've spent the last few evenings SLOWLY removing the tuck-n-roll from my just-acquired 1960s Ampeg B18N Portaflex. Way too many staples were used, but the original covering seems to be in great shape.

Getting to the point of this post: Can anyone tell if the speaker is the original? No where can I find a manufacturer's name, and the only markings are as follows:

On one of the spokes of the speaker is stamped in blue ink:
CIVN3W-2
433729

And on the back cone of the 18" speaker in white ink: 18005

Thanks for any advice!

Yep. B-18N's came with Fanes or Clevelands. Clevelands were a factory upgrade. So yeah, not only is it original, but it probably kicks much ass.

Thanks much B-String and JimmyM.

Jimmy, I first Googled the info stamped on the speaker but came up empty. And after I posted to TB, I looked at your old posts and found one from 2008 where you gave the serial numbers for various speaker manufacturers. This confirmed what B-String immediately told me.

Your welcome. Just search "EIA speaker codes" next time it will take you there (and probably E-bay ).
