Who has played a Gallien Krueger 700RBII during an outside gig and not use the P.A. If so how did it perform, did you run out of steam or was there enough headroom with some to spare. |

You should have no problems what so ever if you are pushing enough speakers.

Forget the little tweeter amp thing, set it to fullrange and plug the loudest stuff you have that adds up to 4ohms into the low outs. |

It's really my church and at the moment we just have a keyboard player, and a drummer. I have also gone to other small churches and found myself needing more juice with no P.A. competeing with the organ, piano, drummer, and guitar. At the moment I have the GK Backline 600 and was wondering how the GK 700RBII holds up without P.A. assistance. |

| | | | The 700RB-II will destroy the Backline 600 even if you don't turn it on. With those two 8 ohm cabs in parallel, you'll be moving plenty of air. The 700 pushes 480W at 4 ohms; the 600 Backline only pushes 300W. And the difference sounds like so much more than that.
Of course, there are outdoor gigs and then there are OUTDOOR gigs. If you gig the Grand Canyon, you might need the 1001RB-II.

GK's pro series is my standard for comparing "honest watts" between different amps. That 700rbII will just plain outdo some other amps labeled 400-500 watts. |

If you have very efficient cabs, you will be very loud. However, it has been my experience that highly efficient cabs do not sound as good as cabinets with less efficiency.
That said, when GK rolled out this amp it was their top-o-the-line piece (at least, that's what I recall). Not long after they released their rack-mount high-current heads, but until then, this was their big dog. It should do fine - provided you match it with the right cabs.

I used a 700rbII for a few years as my main amp - and I have to say, I never had to worry about volume/tone. The 700rbII is more than enough for any situiation I played - indoors/outdoors/whatever the size - it ALWAYS cut through (even to the sound in the audience).
I used to run it with a single 4x10" Ashdown cabinet (but one of the top-of-the-line Ashdown's), and I'm sure that if this one 4 ohm cab was replaced with two 8 ohm cabs, it would have only been louder!
The 700rbII is definitely all one needs for most playing situations. On the flip side, you can always go for a 1001rbII, but the 1001rbII tends to be 'too clean' at reasonable playing levels - because of the greater amount of headroom. A 700rbII you can push to 'hit the rails' a little easier at more realistic stage volumes.
All the best! JOHN |

Great amp, but I tend to use the mB500 more for portability | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
