In over my Head? Noob question ahead...

Sign in to disble this ad
I just snapped up a nice (newer) Acoustic B600H to pair with my Carvin 2x10 cab. The cab is 4 Ohms and is rated at 400 Watts while the head is rated at 450 Watts at 4 Ohms. I'm worried about blowing the cab at regular levels. Granted, I'll never have an opportunity to crank this head as I'm in a kids music band, but I wasn't sure if the cab is in danger just by the head being rated higher, Watts-wise. Thanks!

likely not something to worry about. They are pretty closely matched and IME the cab will start to sound really bad if you are pushing it too hard. Don't do that.

You will be just fine. The harder/louder you play, the more wattage you use to create that tone. Just because the amp CAN put out a bunch of watts, does not mean it will ALWAYS put out a large amount. If the speaker starts to make flapping/farting sounds, decrease the low end content (below 150hz) and/or reduce the volume immediately. Otherwise, the cab will run great.

If you find the 210 not loud enough, get another 210 at 2 ohms since the head can do 600 watts at 2 ohms.

No. Just listen to the speakers. If they start to distort or get farty, back of the volume and/or turn the bass down.

No worries. I use a 3000w head with two cabs that are good for about 1500w. Haven't lost a speaker yet.

Thanks guys, I hear you and will take care not to abuse the speakers too badly.

Gearhead's advice, however, is awesome and universal:
