Question Which is the overall better company?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am in need of a new amp and I was just curious as to what your opinions were as to which one of these companies makes the overall best products. I am mainly concerned with sound quality but also build quality and support.

Ashdown
Eden
SWR
Gallien-Kreuger
Orange
Acoustic

Oh I forgot to mention I am in need of a Combo amp.

*****I will be buying a new combo, not a used one. I am interested in a full warranty and support. I have had too many problems with used gear*****

GK seems to make pretty good quality stuff throughout their line, but I couldn't get used to their characteristic growl, the MB series combo has quite a following on here. Eden seems to vary more throughout the range, the Metro combo is pretty good. I really liked my SWR SM series, it's more on the clean side, but the (Super or non-Super) Redhead seems to have spiced things up more from what I've read.

What genre do you play? What bass? How are your volume needs? Where are you located?

I humbly suggest you add SUPPORT as another desirable attribute. On this board you'll find stories of both good and bad.

You seem to have forgotten Genz-Benz.

Do yourself a favour and check out their Shuttle 3.0 and 6.0 Combo's

I would also add hartke to the list. Good amps at a decent price with good customer service.

I am a big fan of Genz-Benz but I can't afford anything from them right now. With Christmas coming up I am short on money and can only afford around $350 for a new combo.

I mostly play rock but I have also been known to funk it up a little bit. Occasionally R & B.

I have a Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray, Fender Deluxe Jazz, and a Lakland 44-94.

I already have a full setup but I am in need of a smaller home amp. Probably something between 50w and 150w.

man with 350 your choices are very limited and you definatelly have to go used, which narrows your choices. how about waiting till you get some more cash to get a better combo and mabey new?

I have checked around and both guitar center and musicians friend have plenty of new combos from each of these brands under $350. I do not need a large combo, just one for the house. Most of the ones I'm looking at are between 50w and 100w and range from $200 to $350. I am just having trouble narrowing down my options.

Check out a used Ampeg.
The old B2 combos are 240w and a 15' speaker.
They run anywhere from $200 to $350.

not the response i was hoping for usually when anyone mentions behringer in the same thread as GK, SWR, Eden etc there's a huge flame war which is always entertaining

i must say they've always failed on me too

My vote's on GK, but I'm curious as to what GK combo you can get for $350.

I vote for Hartke, damn good amps for the price. The customer service can't be beat either.

Don't troll in a thread where the OP is genuinely asking for advice man, thats bad form.

It was a joke, me thinks. Not that I own a Behringer cheapo 8-channel mixer that works fine in the garage.

With just $350 you have to hunt for a good used equipment, GK amps, Avatar cabs or something similar.

Buy locally and buy used. Since this is for home use and you're on a limited budget, you can probably find something fairly nice for $200-300 provided you're not too picky.

The above statement completely ignores the OP's primary concerns: quality, reliability, and service. New gear will carry a guarantee; used hardware will not. I apologize for the oversight.

I've owned SWR and currently own Ashdown & GK...

I quite like both GK and Ashdown, and was *fairly* happy with my SWR gear.

But as for combo amps - I can't recommend one. I don't like them so I don't own one.
