Overwhelmed, need suggestions

So im hoping to maybe take advantage of the christmas season and get myself a powerful, gigging bass amp. There are just so many options and things to think about that im at my wits end! Basically, im looking for a high wattage solid state amp that can compete with a loud drummer and 2 other guitarists. Id like the cab (or cabs) to be lightweight, and i dont really want to spend more than $1200. As for tone, im not to picky, i play alot of metal and rock if that helps, but my main concern is loudness and portability. I know this is probably asking alot, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Help me talkbass.com, you're my only hope!

Yes, this. Great stuff. Not the cheapest in the world, but not the most expensive either, and well worth more than what it retails for.

As far as heads I picked up a Hartke HA2500 as a backup and it absolutely rocks. Drives the hell out of an ampeg 810 and sounds good doing it..... all for $250

Whatever you decide, don't skimp on the speaker cabs. If it's volume you want, it's more, and better speakers you need. You can go budget line on the head, but not on the speakers.

I actually came across this: http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....ku=480315#used

Are these decent heads? Cause that seems like it would give plenty of power and leave alot of money for a good cab.

Also, if lots of good speakers is what i need, im willing to get an 8x10 cab as long as its not super heavy and has casters.

You could pick up a used GK 700rbii for around 300-400 and an avatar or GK neo 410 cab for around 500 or so. Lot's of volume and portability there.

Used Ampeg 810. Heavy though. Avatar B410 or 2. light modular. I just ordered the TB153 for $399. I think 2 of those would do you just fine too. You'd still have $400 or so left for a head. Although they have yet to be tested.

+1. Markbass heads are solid as well. Distinct voice, but I dig it. Also GK MBFusions a sweet little amp with an awesome tube pre. I think it was like 600 or 700 new

Yup. A lightweight amp and a 212, either one. Its unreal how much pant shaking mojo you can get out of one all night long. Dang thing hardly gets warm.

Also found this used cab on musiciansfriend: http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....ku=601105#used

Markbass CL108. It says its only 89lbs, which isnt bad. The description says it doesnt have bass ports. Is that a bad thing?

Its a sealed cab like the ampeg 8x10. No tweeter, classic tone. Sealed cabs usually are described as having a tighter, more focused low end. Very generic description though.

Never played through one, but have heard they are excellent cabs.
