own a GK 400rb-3 and a backline 115BLXII - who me? not too shabby

Sign in to disble this ad
picked up a 400RB-III and a 115blx off CL this week, I didn't really want the 15, but $150 for the pair - who cares.
I wanted the head for my home office/slash music room and planned on running it through one of 4 Aggie GS112's as I had with my mesa walkabout - as I wanted to keep the walkabout scout combo ready for quick trips.
Nostalgia had me give the single 15 w/o a horn (I usually attenuate the horn in any cab to just shy of off anywho) whirl - and damn if I don't dig the old school warmth, it's just so dang deep, fat and smooth - I like it, yes sir I do!
I've run all my bad boy fivers through it: Ritter Roya, Warrior Isabella, Sadowsky NYC VJ, Sadowsky Modern, Roscoe SKB3005 and my beloved BVV - Benavente Vintage Vortex and the cheap ass little rig just keeps killing it - well at practice volume that is. Now will I be caught dead in public with this thing - hell no ! Although a little black tape does go a long way.

That said who makes a single 15 sans horn these days?

I use a Ampeg classic 115e cabinet usually with a Ampeg SVT3 pro but I also have a GK 400RB and Ampeg V4BH (100 watts) and I love the sound. I have always used cabs with horns and smaller drivers until I bought this cab.

You're obviously not hurting for cashflow, so buy two of everything!

pre 2009 I'd agree with you, but as a General Contractor in 2011 cash flow is gone. Luckily I have good stockpile of bass gear to sell/trade for something new/different, and a wife with all kind a fancy degrees so as not worry about a roof over the head. Ah the glory days of dual income...

Thats funny, cause I was thinking of buying another AMPEG 115e to add to the SVT3 PRO and 115e that I already have.........
