Extra corrugated corners would be a good idea, also.

Then suround the cab on all 6 sides with 1" pink foam insulation from the home store. The box should be a tight fit around the cab & foam.
These materials will support the cab and it will get to the destination without being destroyed. In no means use peanuts for anything except eating. I have shipped products around the world.

I often wrap four sides in cardboard--mainly to help protect the grill (especially if clothe) and the back (if open-backed guitar cab). foam sheets are very inexpensive and can often be found at rental centers or home improvement stores for free--you just have to ask. There's still a good chance though! http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attach...3&d=1199762326

I went to church with a guy that worked in the UPS distribution center in Omaha. He told me most damage happens over the weekend as one package might get moved numerous times throughout the weekend before ever getting on the route truck. The chance of something getting damaged goes up each time its moved. So, I ship only on Mondays to ensure item is delivered no later than Friday.
I only use FedEX now too.

The only moving any package would do on the weekend would be if it was on a feeder truck (over the road truck) of a driver who worked Tue-Sat. UPS facilities where all the action takes place are closed on the weekend.
I only ship on Monday too for the most part (and request the same from anyone I buy from) because I want to receive my item the same week it gets shipped. I don't want something sitting stagnant over the weekend, in other words. If you ship something mid-week there's a good chance it won't get to the receiver until the following week (depends on distance of course). In the summer or winter that means the bass you just bought will be sitting in some truck all weekend in 140 degree heat or below freezing temperatures. |

| | Supporting Member | | | | | I used to double box. Now I break up the second box and stuff it around the cab, similar to what Bob described with pink foam, for a nice, snug fit.
