Pairing dual Markbass New York 604s

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so I posted a while ago about getting a new rig and I figure that I am going to go with 2 4X6s made by Markbass for my cabs. It seems a little weird but I have heard great things and I love Markbass cabs in general as they have good low end. My question is my amp head pairing. I was originally going to go with the Ashdown Little Giant 1000 as it puts out 1000watts at 4ohms, but I found a Markbass SD1200 for much less than the normal price. My question comes down to a matter of the validity of the tech specs of markbass amps. I remember JimmyM going on a rant one time about how some companies post the wattage their amps die at and not the wattage that they begin to fart at. I was curious as to if Markbass is one of the more reputable companies. When they say the NY 604 handles 600w at 8ohms do they mean it will handle 600 before the amp dies or 600 before it begins to sound farty. Reason being, if it can handle 600 easy then 2 of them will handle 1200 or even 1000, but if they tend to post wattage at which the voice coil dies then I probably will go with an 800w head. Any input on what they tend to do or so on would be appreciated. Thanks

As written several times here, a speaker can begin to fart even at half the rated power (that it's just the thermal limit of the speaker's coil).
Unfortunately we can't know it in advance unless we are going to test it or the manufacturer give us that info.

Regards,

Roberto
