pairing a little mark III with a gk neo 212

Sign in to disble this ad
sorry if this post is covered somewhere already, but, i thought it fairly specific and wasn't able to find it readily via the search function.

i am looking into purchasing my first bass rig in the next 6 months -1 year. i currently have a line6 lowdown 110 that works well for practice. i really like the punch achieved by 12 inch speakers, and am thinking that i would like to pair a little mark III with a gk neo 212.

my question is two parts:

1) does anyone have any experience with this configuration?

2) as the gk neo 212 comes in at 8ohms (there is a 4ohm option listed on gk's website, but none of the online etailers seem to carry it), i'll only be getting 300 watts of power out of the little mark. would this be sufficiently loud for a run-of-the-mill bar gig? (the other option would be to get two gk ne0 112's at 8ohms and run them in series to get 600w out of the little mark...this route is much more expensive, though)

thanks for your thoughts and opinions!

1. not me, but good sounding heads always work with good sounding cabs. whether this stuff is good sounding is up to you and a highly personal decision, though.

2. i absolutely think 300w and a 212 would be enough to do bar gigs. i know plenty of bassists who do it. however, that is also a personal thing. but if it's ultimately not enough for you, you stand to gain way more volume by adding a second matching cab than you do beefing up your wattage.

oh, and the lmiii does 500w at 4 ohms, not 600.

@jimmy,

right you are about the 500w vs 600w. typo...

the other intriguing head i've heard about recently is the "Aguilar Tone Hammer 500"

seems like aguilar's answer to the little mark iii and other similarly powered small form factor heads

everyone's coming out with micros now. when the lmii emerged, there really was no competition for it except maybe the genz benz neo pak. the ampeg portabass predates them both, but it had been discontinued by then, and the walter woods micros were priced way higher and only available on a limited basis.

My understanding is you already have the Mark head. Why not choose from any of the Mark Bass cabinets. There are definitely some superior choices when it comes to the Mark Bass lines including their combos.

These are really easy to compare at GC, bring your bass & make a low offer on the Markbass stuff... If its 599 offer 400.
As for the GK stuff get at least 15% off price marked.

I hated GK stuff through some amps & sound good with others. They are NOT cabs that sound good with all basses\amps so make sure yours does.
Markbass has some lousy tweeters I've been told.
Buy the LM used, people are selling those in droves all of a sudden.
