peavey 15" cab
I have been using a Peavey EuroSys-3 15" cab along with my combo for a few years.
Last time I used it, it started producing a huge buzzing sound during sound-check.
I haven't gone near it since but recently picked up an Eminence driver to replace the one in it.
Anyway, before I did that I tried it out to see what sound it produces. No buzzing but very low power output.
I installed the Eminence and found no difference.
I have run both speakers in a different cab and they are fine so it appears some other component in my Peavey cab is at fault. There is a small component that looks like a transformer inside but not much else.
I like the cab cos it gives great bottom end when working and importantly, fits in my car..
Any help or a pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated.
You may have fried the crossover (transformer looking thing). Take a pic of the input plate inside. You can also PM BbbyBld here on TB he is a fine engineer at Peavey.
So, I did some googling on crossovers and then removed the back panel with the input jacks.
When I unplugged it I found that it rattled (not a good thing).
On investigation I discovered the end of a 1/4" jack plug jammed at the back of one of the inputs.
I wormed it out carefully & refitted the panel.
Connected up a pa head I have & the cab now appears significantly louder.
However, since it's midnight here I'm not in any position to give it a full on test.
With any luck, the problem was caused by this piece of metal shorting something.
I'll try the cab out with my combo tomorrow hopefully...
