Peavey 1516 question....

Picked it up today for super cheap and was about to plug up but I'm wondering if I'm running it mono I should have the impedance set to 2 ohms, right? Each part of the cab is 4 ohms, so I think I answered my own question just wanted to verify.

It's crossed over 2-way so consider it a 4ohm cab.

Got another one on the way. These things are awesome.

Tweeters are overrated. I'm surprised how good this cab sounds, granted I like the low end muddy rumble and this cab is delivering it in spades.

Got another question. I now have two Peavey 1516's I'm wondering since these cabs are wired 4 ohms in mono mode would it be possible for me to use a y cable out of the back of my amp into both mono slots?

My amp handles two ohms so that's not a problem. The way I have it worked out in my head; Two Y cables coming out the back of my amp (Peavey VB-2) into the mono slots of each cab with amp set to a 2 ohm load. Sound good?

Why are you using "Y" cables ?

Plugging into the "Full Range" input alone (one cable) is a 4 ohm load.

If you are using a "Y" cord to plug into both the high and low inputs, that is already a 2 ohm load, as each (high/low) are also 4 ohms each.

Ok, my amp has two speaker outputs. Each cab has 4 speaker ins; the bi-amp side has high - in and low - in. The mono side has two speaker in's. I assumed that to run in mono mode I had to use both speaker leads out of the amp into the mono side. Do I not have to? I'm very confused. Didn't seem to hurt the speakers or amp.

Can I take each speaker lead from the amp into just a single input on the mono side and run the cabs?

On the "full range" input (mono), the two inputs are in parallel so that you can use them as an in/out to feed another cab.

Only one speaker wire per cabinet is necessary.

exactly. Those full range inputs are also known as parallel inputs. They're designed for daisy chaining cabinets (plugging one into another so both can use the poweramp if it only has one output). you'll find those on almost every cabinet made today.

Just cause there's 2 holes doesn't need you have to fill both!

I realize that now and damn do I feel stupid.

The new cab may have some rattling trim; only certain notes create a rattle. Think I'm going to pop the back off it and check it out.

Thanks for all the help guys.
