Peavey 18 + 10's cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
Whats the review on old peavey cabs that had 18(s) and 10's in one box?
1810, 1820, 3620?
Are they any good? Efficient? Power consuming?

By todays standards they are too heavy, not designed well in terms of tonal balance and coverage, and the speakers are lacking in mechanical handling.

I have a pair of 1516's and I find them quite good. I've played the 1820's and find them quite nice as well.

All I can say is play them and see if you like them.

I love my 1820, but it's too heavy and too much for what I'm doing now. Every time I think about selling it, I plug in and wow I love the sound. It can really shake the room. BUT I am not using it at gigs these days. At 135 pounds it really needs two people to move it and it doesn't fit in a car. I still can't rid of it.

I used an 1810 for awhile back in the mid 80's. It was at a club I played regularly, and I always looked forward to using that cab. I thought it sounded great. Never had to move the 1810, but I owned and used most of the other refrigerator-size cabinets of the 70's and 80's, so it wouldn't have been a big deal.

If you're looking for a very modern bass sound and light weight and compact, these cabs may not be for you. Sonically they have lots of character, which is definitely old school. Moving is probably not really that bad... just my opinion though.

Keep in mind that these cabs and others from the same era were made when 2 or 3 hundred watts was a phenomenal amount of power and even 100 watts was a lot, so speaker cabs had to be pretty efficient to get the most out the power available.

i had an 1810 through high school and in one word: "Heavy"

sounded ok though...3620s look cool but I'd hate to be a roadie to a bass player with a few
