Peavey 1810/Peavey Megabass questions

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been using a Peavey 1810 for a while and just picked up a vintage Megabass head to try out some biamping. I have a couple of questions:

1. In the manual for the Megabass, it states that the Power and Load for the Bi-amp mode is "200W RMS low pass into 4 ohms, 200W RMS high pass into 4 ohms". Excuse my ignorance, but does this mean I could run two 4 ohm cabs (one for low and one for high)? I assume that's right since the Megabass is essentially two different amps, but I just want some clarification. I have a 4 ohm Avatar Neo 210 and could get my hands on a 4 ohm 1x15 cab. Just wondering if I could biamp into those for portability's sake....

2. As far as the 1810 goes, anyone have experience replacing the 10 inch Scorpions that come stock? Any suggestions for some worthy replacements?

I gotta stop watchin' Craigslist and the for sale ads here...

Yes, but it's not ideal. Biamping got a bad rap from cabs like the 1810. Why turn two good full range cabs into an 1810?

I dunno, those tens are really close together.

Run your low pass to the 15 and the high pass to your 10s.

Forgot to add...

What makes the 1810 somewhat undesirable is it's small 18" enclosure and it's large sealed 2x10" enclosure, among other things. I had one, and I currently have a 1820.

IF you choose to biamp a 115 and a Avatar 210, try a xover frequency around 100hz and stack the 10"s vertically. A 115 SUB could make it worth while, a 115 bass cab probably won't.

YEs.. you can run 2 individual 4 amp cabs.

I run mine with a 2x10 + 1x15

lllllll

The installed scorpions absolutely rock.. I'd buy new baskets.. and swap them in just a few minutes.

Thanks Tim for the offer! The deal for the Megabass kinda fell apart at the last minute, but it might get back together. If not, I'll keep my eye open for another. Also, I'll give the Scorpions a second chance. Maybe a new basket is all they need.... Just did a quick search in google for 10" Scorpion replacement baskets and didn't find any. Maybe my google-fu has failed me. Any hints on where to find them at a reasonable cost?

Thanks!
