spotted a Peavey 1820 bass cabinet on a local Craiglist post. has 2-10" Scorpion & 1 - 18" Black Widow. Say's "basket needs to be replaced on B-W"......wants $75 for it......thoughts folks? Know it's a weighty monster....

You need to find out if Peavey still makes the baskets and how much they cost. I think it will be over $100, plus the $75 for the cabinet. |

BUT..........Peavey did a wonderful thing when they made their BW drivers field replaceable. For $75 and the $120 or so that it costs for the basket I'm on the fence. |

Then again, the 2 I had both had flabby sounding 18s, so if you have access to a good, affordable 18 that will work in the enclosure you might be fine. Depends on your disposable income I suppose. Maybe you could talk seller down. Not much demand for cabs the size of cars anymore.
Mine were both stoutly built, the 10s worked well for the highs, but the 18 was not up to the challenge of a low A with a 145 watt tube amp.

Large footprint, Very heavy, underpowered, and kind of muddy-sounding even at low volume.

Or put all your girlfriends shoe's in it.

Big, heavy, not very efficient (= not that loud), are the things that comes to mind when thinking about the 1820 I had back in the day.
The fact that it's in a need of a "recone" would make the desicion easy for me. HELL NO.
The cone+basket assemblys replaceability is moot IMHO, the work is a PITA, the result is unpredictable and at least over here, the "repair kit" costs 80% of the price of a new driver.
Regards
