Peavey 210TX?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I play in a metal band (death, bodom, slayer, dissection, kreator-y type stuff) and I am broke and in desperate need of a loud amp to compete with our new drummer, and through alot of scanning I think I may try and go for a peavey 210tx combo, though at 400$ dollars shipped it is at the very very top of my price range. But first I wanted to find out if any of you have any experience with this amp. From what I've managed to dig up realize they are really heavy, but past that not much else. I'm not really worried about the weight but as long as I can get alot of sound out of it I'm happy, but I need something asap and got stuff all over CL right now (including a mint condition Jackson JS-20 guitar I found by the dumpster 3 days ago(SCHWIIING!) if any of you living around the SF Northbay are possibly interested...) and everybody's waiting on me(a great situation I might add) so any help is greatly appreciated, thanks dudes and dudettes.

I think that 400 $ is a bit steep, even with shipping.

It delivers 300-ish watts @ 4 ohm, but if coming out of only two 10"-ers you will have a hard time being heard (well, I am assuming that you have 2 guitar playesr with ecah his half stack ... the normal metal band set up).

I've only really started seriously looking lately, so there may simply no good deals on any right now, but you are are correct in assuming that i have 2 guitards to compete with also. Anyone happen to have any suggestions for a solid bass amp for loud deadly blackened thrash type metal for under 400$? I'm lookin for something that can keep up without having to resort to behringer or other less desirable type brand, but I realize 400$ is not alot of money in the world of amps today, btw, thanks for your response dog-cat man.

I hate to say it, but there is no 2 x 10 combo that's gonna do the job in a twin guitar metal band by itself, that is unless your guitarists are playing through dinky 15 watt combos, and I have the feeling they aren't. It's a matter of physics, and I don't care how much horse power it's got built in. The Peavey 210TX is a nice combo , and I'm sure it'll deliver an honest power rating, given my own experience with Peavey gear, and it'll be a loud combo amp per se. I do think 400 bucks is a bit too high for it by the way. You will however be needing to run an extra speaker cab to move the air you are going to need at a volume that let's you be heard in the band mix. If your band has adequate p.a. gear, then go ahead and tap into that for any needed extra horsepower. You might consider a decent used amp head and a 4 x 10 or 2 x 15 cab for doing metal. You might be able to find other good used Peavey gear at the 400 bucks or so margin you plan to spend to give you a decent enough separate head and cab rig.

Amps on a budget would be Hartke, Peavey, Crate ...
With some searching you should be able to have a amp and cab for 400$ ...

like this amp http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/msg/2154039097.html
and you just have to find a cab for 300-ish$

Yeah, something like that or a Mark IV or VI, and a Peavey 410 should come in under budget and get the job done for him...

When you need loud and cheap, there is no better option than used Peavey, IMO - I've played many a paying gig with stuff like that, and it never failed me...

Wow, i really appreciate the reply, for some dumb reason I wasn't even thinking going true half stack with it, i guess you could blame it on my overall lack of knowledge of ohms and what-not, combos are easy. researching sticky thread above as soon as i'm done typing this, thanks again. also just to add it in i just remembered i have an old yamaha keytar to sell too! woo woo, more to my amp fund.

The new GK MB line is pretty affordable and getting great reviews. There is a 4 ohm 2x12 for $400.

I gotta agree with georgestrings, it's hard to beat Peavey for low cost & loud. Another Head/cab combination to look at is the Peavey Firebass with a 4x10 or 4x12. Four hundred dollars might be pushing it, you might have to dig up another hundred or two for a good setup like we are talking about, but who knows, you might get lucky.

So start searching for a good 4x10/4x12 cab and a solid Peavey head!

Good luck!

Cool thanks guys, lots of good info here, I really appreciate all the good help, though it seems that my local CL is totally lame right now in regards to cool bass equipment, and a couple GK 410 cabs selling cheap on ebay right now are pickup only... in New england or something, but I will keep an eye out now that I have a better idea of what to look for, again, you guys make TB awesome, muchos gracias
