Hey Gang; thought I'd actually post something instead of just lurking... I'm in the process of modifying a bunch of the gear I've been sitting on for a while, and thought I'd post the results, pics and comments.
This is an older Peavey 210TX that I've been playing since it was released, probably. I've always sort of liked it, mostly because I can carry it and it plays loud enough for most venues. I'm starting to get a few 100W tube heads into service, however, and I need a few more db out of it. So...
I grabbed a couple of Peavey's Blue Marvel 1056's for it, thinking I could gain 2 or 3 db of sensitivity and some more mid presence over the stock driver. Incidentally, I just played a private disco party a few weeks ago, driving the cab with 1kW of Icepower, and the stock drivers actually held up.
Anyway, the results are attached in pdf format. Dotted line is stock drivers, solid line is new drivers. As you can see, either the stock drivers are worse than I thought, or the BM's are much better than they should be.
Disclaimer: I only had an SM58 on hand, so big rolloff in the low end. I was only interested in the difference, not the measured response, so I'm happy. I'll bring in a measurement mic one day and run a real response curve.
Disclaimer #2: Not a big fan of Peavey bass gear, and this is the only piece I have other than an old Dynabass 5. Figured I'd stick with the same brand of drivers, and they were pretty cheap... |
