Peavey 4x10 & 1x15 for £100

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there.

I'm in a position where money is tight, I'm only 17 and I get £20 a week. I currently have £100 saved, and I'm able to acquire both these cabs for £100. Would this be considered a good deal? Or should I keep saving?

I know Peavey's receive both good and bad reviews, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

As for the cabs themselves, specific models are not detailed, so I will request more information if that's any use?

Thanks, Anthony.

I've always found Peavey to be good, reliable and not-bad (not the greatest either) sounding gear, and are definitely good bang for the buck. As far as I can tell (don't know what the average price for a Peavey 410 is in the UK) that seems like a good deal, but it is generally recommended that, when pairing cabs, you match cabinet sizes. So, in example, pairing a 410 and a 210, or two 115s. Keep that in mind when looking at these, and if you decide you want to try pairing cabs or just sticking with one for now, see if you can snag that 410 for 50!

There are multiple series of Peavey bass cabinets, so it kinda depends... but honestly £100 for any full stack is pretty decent.

My favorite are the VB series, but yours are more than likely TX or the more common ones.

Just get the 4x10. The 15 is going to do nothing much for you and will always be a weak link.

It sounds like a really good deal...especially if the cabs are black widow speaker equipped. Try each cab by itself each and see which one you like better. I doubt you'll need them both at the same time.

There's always the issue of mixing speaker sizes (do a search here on TB regarding mixing cabs)- if you like how the 1x15 sounds get another 1x15 and vice versa. I would imagine if you get both, keep the one you like, you could get much of your money back on the one you decide to sell to fund the purchase of another like the one you like better.

The only information I have so far is that the 4x10 uses the same type of Fostex tweeter as the SWR Goliath, and that the 1x15 has a new Eminence Alpha which the seller claims sounds good in combination.

Neither of those things I know anything about, sorry.

Thanks, Anthony.

As if it is a 4X10 TX, TXF, or TVX. Any of these are great cabs with the TVX and the TXF being a bit newr/better. Well worth the money in my opinion (I own a TX and a TXF cab byself). I believe the Eminence Alpha line is their economy line and wouldn't expect it to perform as well as what Peavey initally had in the 1X15.

You probably wont need more than a 410 TX. I have been using one for years. I have used a Yami PB1/Crown amp, and now a Shuttle 6.0 and it has plenty of volume. My old band had a LOUD LOUD guitar player, and It kept up fine. My new band the Guitar player plays a Marshal Tube amp half stack and punk and it keeps up fine.

My only wish is that it was 4 instead of 8 ohms. I am thinking of replacing the speakers soon to make it 4 ohms. But again I bought it used and have used it for years. Just buy casters and you will be fine.

I paid $150 american for it.

Get both. I run a full rig ( 4x10, 1x18). Last practice I tried to run without the 18 so I could use it in the PA. Sound was alright, volume wasn't bad, but man, I missed that gut punching kick. Maybe all these guys are in classic rock bands or something, but for me, a 4x10 is not enough. Maybe 2 would be.

Anyway, it seems like a good price to me.

I was unable to place a bid on the auction today, however it ended with no bids. I have since messaged the seller and he's willing to sell them for the asking price of £100. I'm seriously considering this, even if I never use the 1x15, getting two cabs for a lower price than just the one cab seems ideal.

Thanks, Anthony.

I'd get them both. Keep the one you like the sound of best, sell the other and make a good portion of your money back. The alpha may or may not be the best fit for the 15, I'd probably sell that one. Unless you happen to like the sound of it.

Right, I shall discuss it with the seller later. Hopefully this next week I'll be in possession of these two cabs. Excellent help here from everyone.

Thanks guys, Anthony.

I'd do it...Peavey is indestructable, seriously so. You can always resell the 1X15 if for example you come to find out the 4X10 is all you need

I actually did. They're the 115BX & 410TX models. If I'm correct the BX had the black widow installed. It was replaced but I'll see if the guy still has it somewhere. Along with the logo's. Otherwise I'll order two more.

All is well though. Definitely going to get the pair. Will collect them sometime soon hopefully. He said they're only going to sit in his garage otherwise. £100, how can pass that up?
