Peavey Alpha Bass tube replacement

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey y'all,

I'm starting to gig again, and the tubes in my Alpha Bass are (according to my gear guru/lead guitarist) "shot." Granted, I have never replaced them, and don't know if they've ever been replaced, so he's probably right.

So here's the question - do any Alpha Bass owners have any suggestions for replacement tubes? (In fact, does ANY tube bass amp owner have any suggestions?)

I'm grateful for any help whatsoever.

I put Groove Tubes power tubes in my old Alpha. I'm actually looking to buy another one as I miss that ole amp. For preamp tubes, I think I just used JJs.

Before you get too many recommendations for the most expensive tubes possible, I'll suggest (cheap) Sovtek or (little pricier) TungSol as replacements. Both are pretty reliable and sound quite decent IME.
