Peavey " Bassist " Preamp, anyone ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone ever used this Peavey bass preamp ? Can't find much feedback on it, and I frankly have never heard of it before Seems to be the predessor of the " Max " preamp. I have seen them go cheap and was wondering if any reviews exist ?

I have a Peavey Max that I bought new. I use it in my studio after discovering that the preamp tube would fall out of it's socket during transit. I record my Bass through it and love it. It looks like the Bassist would be a great pre. It doesn't have a tube but that is not a deal breaker. Try it bi amped. I'd go for it.

I have one. Super flexible. Punch and bright switches, pre- and post- volume, adjustable compression (I never use it, I can't tell you if it's any good) hi and lo shelving 9 band eq, bi-amp and full range outputs, pre and post effects loop, adjustable crossover. Whew.

I've just started to get a tone I like out of it. It could be louder. Not bad overall.

Are you driving a power amp, and do you bi amp ? How's the graphic eq ?

I have an older ProBass 1000 preamp that is very good. Used it for many years in my BiAmped monster rig and now it is the dedicated bass preamp in the studio rack. Very warm for solid state and the EQ is very useful.

I too used the probass 1000 for some time, many years ago.
This isn't a lot different. Nice enough for the coin.
I ran mine, biamped, thru two Peavey 1820 cabs; each with one 18 and two 10's.

When I was last using my Max live I was biamping (Carvin 600 power amp) driving a 1X15 and a 2X10 I crossed over at aprox 200 to 225 hz. I loved the sound until, like I said, the tube would come out of its socket when being moved.

When the Max first came out I used it with the Peavey Deca 750 (I think that's what it was) and two 1516 cabs. I inserted a Sholtz Bass Rockman in the fx loop and blended it in. It was a great, very authoritative rig. I was playing country at the time. Hmmmmm... biamped country Bass .....

As far as I can tell the difference between the Max and Bassist is the tube pre section had a compressor in its place.

Been thinking about these peavey tube pres as of late. I'd like the Ampeg svt preamp and the fender rack preamp but theyre really expensive. Does anyone use / have used these for recording and what signal path was your choice?
