Peavey Black Widow Cabinet for $175?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I saw this on Craigslist and thought it was a good deal. Brand new speakers for these cabinets cost $150. I've been in need of a good bass amp system, and I think this would work for now.

Any opinions/past experience on this before I make an offer?

Guessing the 215 cab? Heavy, mellow old school cab (a little mid shy), powerful and dependable. Used the cab with a G-K 800RB before and it cracked plaster

Doesn't say what type of cab it is, and I'm not experienced enough to tell by looking. It's a 1-15".

Here's the listing, so you can read it. http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/msg/1803060651.html

Never played the single 15 cab, but $175, IMHO is too high for a 115. $125 maybe as it looks really clean. Sorry can't help any further, but the Peavey gang will be along to help more.

Well, I looked it up on google, and the Peavey website has these speakers listed for $150 alone. That mean anything?

That means you are buying a used speaker and cab and the seller is looking for too much money. You can also buy replacement baskets/cones for BW's for $80.00 so the "value" of the used speaker is around $75?

If you don't mind the weight and size, I'd say it's a pretty decent deal. Maybe offer $150...
If you want something compact and portable, keep on searching.

Oh, glad I could find someone from Florida who knows him. Anyways, there are better deals I've found. I don't necessarily need a cab, just a decent amp/speaker for now. But I'm willing to pay around $100 if it gets me a nice sized amp.

Or offer to buy both 200-250?

I don't need more than one, and I'm really stretched on money. $150 I could manage, but $200-$250 would be out of my range.

Wait him out... 175.00 is too high for that cab. Give it a week or two, then tell him you've got 100.00 cash. They won't be going anywhere priced at 175.00

Also, I'm really new to this, so you'll have to forgive my ignorance: Will I need a head for this, or can I just plug it straight into the cab/ rout it through my effects box?

You will definitely need a head to run that, and $175 is too high a price.

I think I've found something that will fit my situation a bit better.

Anyone ever used a Fender Rumble? I'll probably try to haggle it down to $100, though.

Fender Rumble amps are decent. Although I've generally found 60 watt bass amps to be too loud for the bed-room, but too quiet for gigs and the jam-room.

I used to own a couple of Fender Rumble 100's. They are well built amps with pretty decent tone for the price. It's got a 4 band rotary consisting of bass, low mid, high mid, and treble so, you should be able to dial in a few decent tones with it to get you by.

You should be able to jam with other people providing everyone else keeps their volume in check.

They sell for $270 new. The $125 is a pretty fair price so I wouldn't try and haggle him down to $100. For $125 you're getting a pretty good little amp.

Def. too high a price.

They are great cabs tho, but you can get them much cheaper.

Got my Peavey 215 with BW's for £75

You're going from a 115 cab to a smallish combo?

What exactly are you looking to do here? Play gigs or jam in your bedroom?
