Question Peavey Combo 300 EQ Settings and Hollow Body Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I just purchased a Peavey Combo 300 Amp on an amazing trade in deal. Previously, I had a 30 watt Mega Amp, which served it's purpose but failed miserably when it came to actual gigging. I've never owned any real bass amp but find myself a little over whelmed with the diversity of sound and knob settings. I've recently began jamming with a 60's era Beatles based band and have two hollow body Hofner type guitars (one is an Epiphone Viola and the other is an Aria 1420 Violin bass from late 1960's/early 70's. I know this is not the ideal amp for this setting but find it is a good step in the right direction as compared to the 30 watt Mega Amp. The challenge is that I have no idea what to set the 8 band equalizer at to maximize the Beatles Hofner sound. I've fooled around with the settings for a few hours but got nowhere. Adding to the confusion is the duel low and high gain knobs. Anyone have any suggestions? I found the manual on Peavey's site but find the settings they suggest for Rock, Funk, and Country to not be adequate for the bass. I also have a Zoom B1 effects peddle. Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated!

Start with everything set "neutral", or "flat", and try each control one at a time until you get an ear for what they each do.

I usually keep the mid & treble somewhat at the 12:00 settings, maybe 1:00, I use the low bass and low mid bass at about 2-3 o'clock, pull the punch knob out and the adjust to taste, based on room acoustics

Thanks, guys. Slowly finding the sound I am looking for. Really appreciate the feedback and assistance. Jastacey, you are pretty well dead on with the EQ settings for the sound I was looking for. A little tweaking between the Amp EQ and the FX peddle EQ and I should have this dead on.
