I own the previous version of that amp, a Combo 300 and yes I'd say get it, offer the gut $175 and see what happens |

Power output is probably 300 WRMS @ 2 Ω, but the internal speaker is probably 4Ω so it'll actually be capable of delivering 210 WRMS. I was a Peavey dealer for a good while in the '80s but never really liked the Combo myself. The pre-amp is good, but it's awful heavy. I'd rather have a separate head and cabinet; make two trips without hurting myself lifting it into or out of the truck.
But it's a good solid reliable amp with a very good speaker and the price seems pretty good for that much power, EQ, and flexibility. Whether it's physically practical is something you could decide after you play through it and see how hard it is to lift it.

The only real downside (as everyone has pointed out) is the weight. However, I've put casters on the bottom of mine (2 of them lock for when I DON'T need it to move), and now it's quite easy to roll around. I only lift it when I really need to.
These amps are SUPER versatile tone-wise.

Right now i need another person to help me carry it but i might just leave it where it is for a while because its pretty difficult to move. again thanks for the comments |

That amp survived years of Hardcore punk shows, and even a beer spilled down the air vent on the top with only a dryout period required. It was HEAVY. I always thought it was comical how it has the little one hander rubber handle on top & no side handles.

Mine's out in the garage cause it's too heavy to haul into the house. It's in a winner as far as I'm concerned! I played around a little with the compressor, and dig the sound I get.

Played the crap out of it for about 8 years, then put it away since i got new stuff. I pulled it out again not so long ago and it still works great. I remember that after the speaker broke in a little it sounded better. Also I added a peavey 210 extension and it really brought the sound to life, plus boosted it up to 300 watts. Adding another 15 sounds good too. I only hooked up the bi-amp option using the internal crossover and another power amp one time, but it was pretty cool. I think I want to mess with that setup again. You can download the manual here. http://www.peavey.com/assets/literat...s/80301655.pdf |

VERY informative. cleared up alot of questions. i tell you, this is a HUGE transition from a Rumble 15 amp. and for under $200 im very happy with it. im thinking about putting casters on it so i dont have to lift the thing just to move it a couple feet or so. has anyone else done this? |

| Oh yeah. Side handles might be another good addition. Congrats on your purchase. |

I put casters on it and it was easier to move, but a little wobblely and felt like it might fall over. It never does. I would try to find the removable ones. this way you can pop them in and out when needed. I like having solid floor contact. |

Mine has gone out twice on me. $25 fix each time, but now it's out again. I think it's the speaker connection to the amp. Also spilled a Sprite down in it once at a gig. We sprayed the hell out of it with contact cleaner and it was good to go in about thirty minutes.

I was playing out of an Accoustic 360 so that wouldn't work and the director found an old Combo in the back room. Had to add a battery pack to that and get one of the jr high kids to push it behind me on a dolly. Man did he bulk up that year! But yeah, we abused the heck out of thaty thing and it never hic-uped. 10 years later I stopped by and the jazz band was still using it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
