Peavey DPC1400x 1RU Power Amp - why was it discontinued??

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been doing some research for a 1RU power Amp that does 1000w at 4 ohms and this is the ONLY amp I can find that fits the bill...But it is discontinued!!!???

From what I have read these were extremely popular and potentially ahead of their time.

Devastated.

Is there anything in the market that was a replacement for this amp?

not a replacement, but...

you should be able to put 2 swr amplites in one rack space. that would give you 400w at 4 ohms x2.

definitely not a replacement.

Products disappear if they don't sell, they don't work or they've been replaced. At least one of these factors must have applied to the Peavey.

I have a couple of 1RU poweramps - a Smartlight SL600 and a Soundtech PS802. At one point in time 1RU poweramps seemed to be all the go, but seemed to die out as quickly as they became popular.

Of my two power amps only the Smartlight still works and I would say that neither of them have been as robust as I would like, or expect. They're also very heavy, almost like 1RU of lead, so apart from saving a bit of vertical rack space (they still take up a good 3/4 of the full SKB rack depth), I really can't see any advantage in having a 1RU poweramp over a nice 2RU Crown 1500 XLS which weighs under 9 pounds - that will be my next puchase.

If you've got to have 1RU there is this Markbass - MB 1000 new class D poweramp from Markbass - I've never tried or heard one though.

You know its bad when they don't list prices. I got intrigued and searched ebay. WOW. All I can say. $7500 for a power amp? Better last me and my kids and their kids until it dies.

This would be the place to start your search if you really want one and live in the US. Probably a good place to look for a used Peavey as well.

The Phil Jones D4000 (1 rack space unit) is not cheap, but I'm sure they are well-made and sound good because of who builds them (they're under 22 lbs).

Yeah, I'm surprised the Peavey DPC's didn't sell better -- I think they might actually sell better now than they did at the time.
If I had the spare cash and found a decent unit for a decent price, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I wish I did live in the US when it comes to products like this.

I did look at the Crown xls1500 - this does appear to be the best option if 1RU Power Amps are unreliable or hard to get.

Not as powerful as the 1400, but Peavey also made DPC 750 and DPC 1000 models, also 1RU amps.
Pretty inexpensive, when you can find em, might be worth a look, depending on the flexibility of your needs.

I have a 750, works for me.

The 750 and 1000 models only bridge into 8 ohms unfortunately - so not quite the same as the 1400x which bridges into 4 ohms.

ART SLA-2? 560 watts into 8 ohms bridged, not sure if it's stable bridged in 4 ohms, though

spec sheet claims it's stable into 4 ohms mono but doesn't give the power rating.

Frankly there's so many good choices w/the class D 2U amps out there these days, attractive as a 1U amp appears.
