Peavey Firebass 700 not working!!!?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all. I have a peavey firebass 700 blackface amp. a while back i plugged it onto a friends 8x10 and turned it on. The normal green light came on initially, but then the light faded until it was completely out. I had no sound at all through the cab. so I unplugged it, used a different amp for the nite and brought it home.

Now months later I finally had a chance to open it up and see what the issue is. I tried replacing both the 1 amp slo blow fuses inside the amp, but they keep blowing when I turn it on. Also, the two fans in the front of the amp were coming on initially, but now they aren't even engaging.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I bought the amp used for about $350 4 or 5 years ago. It worked great fro many gigs. I like the sound and want to keep it, but I am cautious of bringing it to an expensive amp repair shop when I paid so little for it in the first place. Thanks.

Hi.

Since the fuses blow, the wisest, safest, and in the long run cheapest option is to take the head to a tech.

The fact that it was cheap(ish) shouldn't IMHO affect Your desicion whether to have it repaired or not if the tone is to your liking. Within' reason obviously .
The way I'd look at it is that the head has probably paid itself already, so as long as the repair bill is less than a price of a similar one, it's a win.

Regards
Sam
