Peavey Headliner 2011?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so I have been looking for a new amp and whatnot and trying to save some money on it and I was looking through my BP mag that covers the Winter NAMM show (Jonas Hellborg is on the cover). In there it mentions some new Peavey Headliner Head that puts out 600 watts at 4 ohms and how its pretty inexpensive. All my searches have lead to it having been announced last year? Did BP make an error putting it for this years? I haven't found any info or when it will be produced or anything. Any info would be greatly appreciated

No error. Here is a post about it from Jan 2010. Still hasn't made it to market, AFAIK.

I would be very leary of the 600 watt rating. They also rate their new Tour TNT at 600 watts and that is really peak power. I would bet your looking at 300 watts rms in reality with that head.

yea i agree. there older stuff seemed to be louder than what it was rated. but now it seems the other way around. i used a tour 450 a while back and actually it was very loud. then i used a tour 700 and was not as impressed with the power. i think the 450 could get louder.

Oh wow, I understand it takes things a while to get on the market but taking a year after it's debut? Either they are being big teases or there have been some serious problems with it.

You are correct sir. We have worked through that. It's looking like production in July.

You are are also correct. I'm not a fan of marketing watts, but, put it up against any 600 watt head you like. It will compete.

My new Musicians Friend mag has the Headliner for sale in it right now.
I would be interested in hearing it as the Carvin BX 500 I had blew up three separate times in three separate heads. Got rid of that sucker. haha Maybe I was the sucker.
I have owned a few Peavey products over the years and I don't think any of them broke down. high end gear no...but dependable yes. I haven't bought anything from Peavey in 20 yrs but might consider it again sometime.

Thanks for confirming, BbbyBld. Since the IPR amps also experienced production delays due to parts shortages, it makes me wonder - are the power sections of similar design? For that matter, there's the powered PA cabinets; also class D. Would be interesting to know if/how these amps are related.

The Headliner uses different topologies for the power supply and class D section from the IPR. It's really the types of components that are in high demand.

There are some powered mixers and PA cabs that are IPR cousins.
