Question Peavey Headliner 210 enclosure

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I was looking for cheap amps online, and I came across the Peavey Headliner 210 bass enclosure. It looks nice, and I noticed it only costs $199.99! According to the product features, it says (unless I misunderstood) it's 400 watts and can handle 800 watts and also has two 1/4'' input jacks. It seems like a really nice amp. So I have a few questions about it:

1) Is it a good quality amp?
2) Is it like a cabinet, which needs an amp head to power it?
3) Is it loud?

The cabinet is passive and will require power to run it. Ignore the 800 watt number and pay attention to the 400 watt number. I highly doubt this is a decent 210 at the listed price. Is there any way you can try it out? If you want a cheap but GOOD 210, I would suggest an Avatar 210. Not the best tone, but plenty loud for practice situations and many gigs as a monitor only.

Unfortunately, no, I don't have any way to try it out. I would just like to get an amp better than my current one. The only bass amp I have is a Silvertone BAXs and it is probably the worst amplifier I've ever heard.

I hear you on upgrading! I highly suggest visiting Avatar Speakers

And looking at the 210 with Ceramic speakers or the Neo speakers. I am not a big fan of the tone of NEO speakers, but it does get the job done with a loud drummer and two guitar players. It's a much better purchase than the Peavey for sure. It will make you happier and you will have something usable for quite a while. The cabs are made really well and perform higher than what you pay for. Save your money!

Actually, I'm not in a band. Are the 210 speakers only good for gigging?

Edit: Oh wait, you said it was good for practice too. Never mind.

I've got an Avatar 2x12 cab and it's an average cab, nothing to write home about. I did gig with it for years and it held up but I did the same with a couple of Peavey cabs so if I had to choose between the two, I would look at the Peavey first.

Just to be clear, the 210 you're looking at is a speaker cabinet, NOT an amp. From the above posts, it's not clear the op understands that.

Also the 400 watt rating is program power, the rms rating is 200 watts.
