Thumbs down Peavey Headliner... not what I expected from Peavey.

I recently bought the Peavey Headliner 2x10 cab & the 15 cab. For 5 days and one practice, they sounded like... well, like Peavey's do.

Most of my Peavey experience was with guitar amps; they lacked character, but had solid enough speakers, were loud & cheap, and I was using a Boss DS-1 for tone anyway.

Today @ practice: the cabs, the 2x10 especially, began distorting like I was still running my DS-1 through them. Not nice. The 15" was ok, but seemed to lack power. My first thought was my Kustom KB200H was failing, but I tried it on my drummers 'no name' 4x10/4ohm cab and it sounded good as ever. I tried the Peavey cabs solo; same effect on both. Beehive 2x10 & tired, farty 15".

Just an FYI - not slagging Peavey. Just these cabs. They're both going back on Monday.

Hmmmm. I have owned plenty of Peavey cabs and amps. Not exactly top end, but always good.

Did you buy them from a store?

Could be a damaged floor model.

I have to say I'm not surprised...The Headliner series seems not as good as the older tour series amp/cabinets.
I think Peavey it right with that series!
then discontinued them for the Headliner series?

My thoughts too. Added to my disappointment.

Online. zZounds. Gotten lots of gear from them; not their fault; I doubt it anyways.

You should try the VB series cabinets. The Headliner series is entry level stuff, like everybody has to have. The VB's are fantastic. The VB-115 has a Black Widow in it.
