peavey mark III

Sign in to disble this ad
hi, I found a peavey mark III and it sounds quite nice

I was just wondering if I can plug it in to a 4x10 (marshall) and a 1x15 (axl) box?

can it power up both?

Can you tell us what the impedance of each cab is? The answer might be on the cabs. Check to see if there is a label that says 8 ohms, 4 ohms, etc.

Probably not. I have one of these heads. It has great tone but is somewhat lacking in the power department and they do not take well to multiple cabs with different impedances.

Those heads will go down to 2 ohms so it should be safe. I ran one of those years back with two 4 ohm 215 cabs and it worked great.

Yep... you should be okay powering a 1x15 and 4x10.

I, personally, LOVE the Mark III. It's my favorite of the Mark series because of it's awesome solid-state grindy tone.

I used one with a 4ohm 2x15 for my first punk-rock setup.

They will run like a beast at 4 and 2 ohms. Marginal at 8.

I'm using a Mark III 400 with a cab split between 2 15's and 2 horns and running a little below half way up on the gain(s) and main(s), it keeps the dust blown off everything within a couple hundred yards. I had another Mark III years ago that lived in compression and routinely got hot enough the plastic cooling hole grill in the top was sagged from the constant high temps, and the only thing it ever did was work every time I plugged in to it. I've got a rack full of "good" gear and "good" cabs, but I'm playing in an open shed these days so I found me a good used old Peavey mark III and a Peavey cab I'd bet is almost as old as me and it's getting the job done every time I plug in and flip the power switch. Me and the Peavey rig are kinda like the old postal service motto, neither rain nor sleet nor cold or heat will keep us from our appointed sounds.

I downloaded a manual for it, sorry I can't remember where it came from, but I found it so it had to be easy to locate. If you need/want a footswitch for it, there is an eBay seller (user ID balancedclarity) recommended by Peavey's service department who makes a replacement. I only gave $100 for the head so I passed on the $60.00 (plus $10.00 shipping) switch and just use the automix input jack, and I can get all I want with a standard MIM jazz. It is a bit thin on the upper end, but It's not been a problem with the straight country I've been doing and I've been too lazy to tweak it further.

Hook it up and work it hard for about 30 minutes and see how hot it gets. If you can still touch the top grill without raising a blister, you should be good to go.

On this rig setup, I have a 1980 Mark III, running a 4x10 (8 ohms) and 2x15 (4 ohms), the head runs them together just fine.

Not sure which model you have, but it's the loudest 150 watts I've ever heard. It's louder than my old Ampeg B-2 at 350 watts. -Luke

+1

I just did a search ...(I know, I know, I'm crazy like that)

..But the Mark III (series300) that I just read about said 150watts at 4 ohms..then it said 4 ohm Minimum.

are their different versions?

My Mark VIII goes down to 2.

to the OP...it does state on the back of the head what the Minimum is.

Good Luck
