Peavey Mark Series XP question

Sign in to disble this ad
Im looking for a loud as all hell solid state head and ive been recommended a peavey mark VI or VII by a few people, and ive come across some versions that have XP on them. for you peavey gurus im just wondering what the difference is between the standard models and the XP series. i cant find anything that explain the differences, or if there really is a big difference.

any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Not sure of the differences between regular and XPseries, but I gigged a MarkVI xp series that I bought new for
17-20+? years @2.67ohms with Peavey 4x10-8ohm and 1x18-4ohm cabs that were even older.
If you run it at 2ohms I think it pushes 400watts.

It's very loud and very heavy and I never had one single problem with it in all that time.
It's a dependable head, I have a Mesa M6 now but I'm keeping the Peavey Mark VI XPseries for a back up,
I can't let it go after all those years of dependable service.

Here's a couple of old pics of mine.

I think for the "right" price and you can make sure everything works on it you can't go wrong.
Sure there are better heads nowadays but it always worked well for me.
There is a user manual online that you can check out for it.
How much can you get it for?

Bumpo!

I'd think for 150-175ish it'd be worth it.
It's a loud head.
Anyone know the diff. between the regular and XPseries Peavey heads?

The Mark vi xp has compression and limiter. The Mark vi non xp only has a limiter. The front panels are different. That's all I see. Here are the manuals for both.

Street value 100-200... the difference in value is how beaten it is and if it has all the knobs.... slider buttons are what get lost.

The core of this line is all the same.. some have small feature differences.. the power amp etc is all the same flavor... in reality many folks disable the chorus, compressor, limiter etc.

IF you get it, it's a great amp to bring with as a spare.. since it will go down to 2 ohms it will fire 4each 8 ohm monitors.. and has a graphic EQ to ring out the room.

I've owned several... never had a failure... they got ugly and I got weak... they're still all in service.

I'd venture to say this amp will outlast many of the holy grail amps that are out now.

YOur paying audience will not know the difference between this amplifier and a botique..

----

I do not gig one now as I'm IEM and DI.

Peavey has been great about getting hundreds of manuals online, for both current and way vintage discontinued stuff. They've been working away at it ever since they had a web presence, and it's very easy to find what you are looking for there. Also their service people through email and on the phone bend over backwards to answer questions and often will send schematics merely to clarify things.
