Peavey Max 112 or Yorkville XM50C ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello guys, before anything, please excuse my english, im currently learning it. I just wanted to ask help to all of you about choosing between 2 bass amps. The first option is a Peavey Max 112 with 40w(1 12” speaker) http://www.guitarcenter.com/Peavey-M...73-i1145638.gc

And the 2nd choice is a Yorkville XM50C with 50w (with a 10” speaker) http://www.dagexpress.com/incEngine/?product=1030198878 . I really dont know what to choose. Im getting both for the same price ($120 bucks).

I’ve seen that the Yorkville goes new for $350 Canadian dollars and the Peavey Max 112 goes for $ 200. I dont understand this, since the Yorkville has a smaller speaker (but more watts).

Which one you all think i should get? By the way, im just starting playing bass. Thanks in advance.

P.S : I must choose between those 2, today, or else the owners gonna sell em to someone else tomorrow.

I would choose the Peavey because a 12" spkr will be louder than the 10" spkr, even with less power.

Why not had the Acoustic B100 combo at your list? the price is in between the two others and you'll got twice the power and a 15" speaker!

Thanks for your opinion guys, but i just can't get the acoustic B100, for many reasons.

1.-First, its $250 new (Both amps i mentioned are $110)
2.-Acoustic brand is not present here in Mexico.
3.-I would have to find a shop with international shipping and pay at least $100 for shipping plus all the customs hassle.

So, it would be great if you could help me choosing only between those 2 options.
Thanks

The Peavey Max series is great for what it offers - well made, solid tone, reliable and affordable. That would be my choice.

I own both. I like the Yorkville for sound just a bit better than the Peavey. Volume wise they're close with a slight edge towards the Peavey. I think the Yorkville is built a bit better though. I don't trust the input jacks on the low priced Peavey's.

I do trust the Yorkville/Traynor gear and have used it for many years. It has a good reputation here in Canada. That's the one I'd go with.

Oh, so you say that XM50C = Better Tone
and Peavey Max112 = Better volume?

I also noticed that the XM50C has an "XLR Balanced Line Output"
Does that mean i could connect a ..say a2x12 cab on it and get a decent volume (and sound)?

The Peavey Max 112 has a headphone out, i dont know if that would work as the XM50c "XLR Balanced line output".

the thing is the peavey has 35 watts and the yorkville/traynor 50 watts (even though it has smaller speaker).

Damn, this is a though one.

Not tough for me. I'd get the Yorkville.

Yes, the line out works well. I've used it into a PA. If you want to add a speaker cabinet you'd need a power amp to drive it from the Line Out of the Yorkville. But that's later down the road. You need to get up and running first.

By the way, the difference in volume between the two amps is very small and not worth worrying about. Neither amp is designed to fill a big room by itself.

Thanks a lot man, and everyone else, i just bought the Yorkville, its just awesome !!, and with the rugged cover, its just killer.

By the way... and im not joking, i got a call from my neighbors asking if i could lower the volume a little, and it was just 4/10 of volume. That's nice.
The best of all, is that the tone is still smooth and is not a bit distorted at its max capacity (Tried it at 9/10).
I think i can easily keep up with my band drummer, at 7 or 8/10 volume.

I was also surprised how well it works as a monitor.

Again, thanks everyone, and specially Mr.62bass.

Signed.- A happy mexican on a New Amp Day.

Good for you! Play a couple choruses of Cielito Lindo through it for me.
