Peavey Max 700

Can anyone tell me when the Peavey Max 700 was introduced? I understand it took the place of the Firebass. Was the Max an upgrade of the Firebass? I have been looking hard for a Firebass 700, but if the Max is the same I would rather have the newer version.

I think there may have been some finer refinements, but there are a number of firebass models too.

I think the primary difference, to the end user, is the faceplate (between the different firebass iterations and the max700). So just go with a Max 700 if you can't find that Firebass.

I think they moved to the "Max" names in about 2004-2005ish.

I've got a Firebass (not the final iteration), nice amp! Tank of an amp!

Thanx for the reply I got a Mohawk. I have looked a several Firebasses but have not been able to find one in mint condition. I am trying to find the nicest one I can. When I do it will be a keeper.

I'll sell you my Max 700!
It IS a real tank of an amp. Indestructible and can shake the walls good with the right cabinet! Mine is shelved as its too much for my needs at the moment. I had it powering my 412 and 1x15 Traynor cabs, and couldn't turn it up past 3!
Its in near mint condition and if you can find one, I highly recommend it!

From a look around, it seems the Max 700 came out in 2003, so a bit longer ago than I thought.

Even the "newest" Firebasses are going to be getting close to 10 years old now, so may be hard to find one in mint condition!

As said though, tonally, they sound the same and are all built like tanks. So unless you are after specific faceplate asthetisc, just go with the best one you can find (firebass or max)
