Peavey Microbass Project - Help Needed

Sign in to disble this ad
Part I: Recently my Peavey Microbass practice amp (20 watts, 8" speaker) stopped working, so I tool it apart and it seems like the problem is the jack. I took it off, but my replacement is a regular old switchcraft. There seems to be four places where the jack originally connected, and I'm not sure how to wire up this much simpler and smaller TS jack. Maybe I even need a TRS and I'm just too dense to figure that out.

I was able to dig up a schematic here, although it says 1987 - so I hope the design hasn't changed drastically. I'm not in the mood to electrocute myself, so I'd greatly appreciate some guidance on how to wire this thing in. I'd be glad to supply pictures later when I get home.

Part II: In addition, I thought, hey, since this thing is already in pieces, why not take this opportunity to build a new cab that will get better low end response? I know it will never push any reasonable volume, but honestly, this thing pushes a lot of sound - I'm able to keep up just fine during amplified acoustic sets (even on low to medium settings) with this thing without having to haul in my main rig. It's just a tad midrangey. Are there any recommendations for a nice little 1x8" cab design for bass, either full DIY or maybe a ready made box? I plan on keeping the original speaker as well.
